1. Compound Formation in Model Catalysts
Abstract : In this thesis we have performed a systematic atomic scale characterization of model catalysts under pressures ranging from UHV to atmospheric ambient. By using a unique approach, linking UHV and high pressures studies by combining traditional electron based techniques with novel high pressure in situ probes and ab initio calculations, the surface structure of the different model catalysts could be determined under a wide range of conditions, spanning more than ten orders of magnitude in pressure. 2. Synthesis of Covalently Linked Diporphyrins: Model Compounds for Intramolecular Energy and Electron Transfer
Abstract : Three series of donor-bridge-acceptor compounds have been synthesized to probe the influence of various bridge chromophores on energy and electron transfer. The donor-bridge-acceptor compounds in each series comprise two different porphyrins, acting as donor and acceptor, covalently linked by bridge chromophores. READ MORE

3. First step to a genomic CALPHAD database for cemented carbides : C-Co-Cr alloys
Abstract : CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) denotes the methodology used to assess thermodynamic data based on experiments as well as on first principles calculations. Essential for this method is the coupling of phase diagram and thermodynamic properties. READ MORE

4. Emissions of organic compounds from technosphere articles : Measurements and modeling of mass transfer from consumer goods and building materials to air and water
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of a generic model for predicting the emissions of organic compounds from materials used in the manufacture of various goods and products. Many products contain organic substances that are not bound to the matrix formed by their constituent materials and are thus able to dissociate from the material and become transferred into the surrounding environment. 5. Clinical and experimental studies of bone substitutes and dental implants in compromised bone sites
Abstract : Background: With an ageing population, an increase of more challenging implant treatments is expected. In this thesis, we evaluate the outcome of two faster implant protocols, in patients with compromised alveolar bone. READ MORE
