  1. 1. Smart Homes and User Values : Long-term evaluation of IT-services in Residential and Single Family Dwellings

    Author : Greger Sandström; Ulf Keijer; Brian Atkin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; accessibility; developer; dwelling; construction process; evaluation; home; housing; information technology; intelligent building; long-term; model; post-occupancy evaluation; resident; service delivery; smart home; trust; usability; usefulness; user; user evaluation; user experience; user value; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : Do residents find value in smart home functions? How should these functions be designed to offer user benefit? These were the governing questions of this study that involved nearly 200 families in three different housing projects during five years of occupancy. The housing units were equipped with advanced smart homes solutions, electronic and digital devices to control them, and a set of functions to increase comfort, safety and security in the homes. 2. 2. Model Based Coding : Initialization, Parameter Extraction and Evaluation

    Author : Zhengrong Yao; Haibo Li; Ralf Schäfer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Model-based coding; Motion estimation; Vision based tracking; Initialization; Analysis-by-Synthesis; Texture mapping; Active tracking.; Signalbehandling; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis covers topics relevant to model-based coding. Model-based coding is a promising very low bit rate video coding technique. The idea behind this technique is to parameterize a talking head and to extract and transmit the parameters describing facial movements. At the receiver, the parameters are used to reconstruct the talking head. READ MORE

  3. 3. Model-based coding : extraction, coding, and evaluation of face model parameters

    Author : Jörgen Ahlberg; Andrew Senior; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with model-based coding of human faces for low bitrate communication. The basicidea of model-based coding is that the appearance and motion of a human face are analysed. By thisanalysis, compact parameters allowing realistic visualization of a synthetic face are extracted. READ MORE

  4. 4. Improved Bridge Evaluation

    Author : Hendrik Schlune; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; model updating; structural identification; Bridge evaluation; concrete structures; finite element analysis; finite element method; load cases;

    Abstract : Accurate structural models are required for optimal management of existing bridges and economical new ones. However, unavoidable modelling uncertainties and difficulty in modelling the non-linear response of concrete bridges can lead to structural models which do not fulfil this requirement. READ MORE

  5. 5. Configuration Design of a High Performance and Responsive Manufacturing System : Modeling and Evaluation

    Author : Daniel Tesfamariam Semere; Bengt Lindberg; Bolmsjö Gunnar; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Configuration; Modeling; Evaluation; Manufacturing engineering; Produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Configuring and reconfiguring a manufacturing system is presented as an issue with increasing importance due to higher frequency of system configuration or major reconfigurations to accommodate new set of requirements and/or the need to configure the system to make it usable across generations of products or product families. This research has focused in the modeling, evaluation and selection decisions which involves multiple, incommensurate and conflicting objectives. READ MORE
