  1. 6. Numerical analysis of coalescence-induced jumping droplets on superhydrophobic surfaces

    Author : Konstantinos Konstantinidis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; jumping droplets; immersed boundary; CFD; surfaces; superhydrophobic; contact angle; VOF; coalescence; self-cleaning; wetting; hysteresis;

    Abstract : Bio-inspired superhydrophobic surfaces are used in numerous technological applications due to their self-cleaning ability. One of the several mechanisms reported in literature and responsible for self-cleaning is the phenomenon of coalescence-induced jumping of droplets from such surfaces. READ MORE

  2. 7. Interfacial behaviour of surfactants and enzymes: studies at model surfaces

    Author : Olaspers Jonny Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface and boundary layery chemistry; gränsskikt; enzymatic degradation; cellulase; model film; cellulose; QCM; ellipsometry; surfactant; three-phase contact line; adsorption; wetting; Ytkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results from experimental studies of the interfacial behaviour of surfactants and enzymes at model surfaces. The main technique used throughout the work was ellipsometry. READ MORE

  3. 8. RNA in model lipid membranes - interactions in bulk and at surfaces

    Author : Agnes Michanek; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ssRNA; RNA origami; dsDNA; selfassembly phospholipids; model membranes; monolayer; QCM-D; DSC; Neutron reflectometry; hydrophobic interaction; cationic surfactants; sphingosine; phase behavior;

    Abstract : The work presented in the thesis “RNA in model lipid membranes- interactions in bulk and at surfaces” aims to characterize the interaction between RNA and model membranes with different properties as well as to determine if ssRNA associate with model membranes in different ways. Several techniques have been used to characterize these systems, including quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D), Langmuir film balance in combination with neutron reflectometry and fluorescence microscopy as well as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). 4. 9. Rough surfaces in contact : artificial intelligence and boundary lubrication

    Author : Marco Rapetto; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : Interacting surfaces are found in mechanical systems and components. Since engineered surfaces are not perfectly smooth, only a fraction of the nominal surface area is actually in contact. This fraction is denoted as the real area of contact, Ar, and is formed by the sum of the contact spots between the two touching surfaces. READ MORE
