  1. 11. Ecologies of Practices and Thinking

    Author : Elke Marhöfer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; new materialism; film; image; matter; nonhuman; more-than-human; other-than-human; not-so-human; ecology; agriculture; otherness; storytelling; enunciation; post-context; post-history; animism; colonialism; becoming with; seeing together; lines of flight; modes; animals; plants; things; territories; multiplicities; chaos; expressive continuum; rerational aesthetics; radical empiricism; Baruch Spinoza; Gilles Deleuze; Félix Guattari; Isabelle Stengers; Donna Haraway; Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing; Brian Massumi; Danièle Huillet; Jean Marie Straub;

    Abstract : How does a new materialist film practice look? To approach this question the practice-led material driven research explores dynamic ecological relations and processes of thinking and practicing. It employs an animist methodology which allows it to relate to the nonhuman as an active participant, rather than a passive object of inquiry. READ MORE

  2. 12. The materiality of media discourse : on capitalism and journalistic modes of writing

    Author : Peter Berglez; Stig Arne Nohrstedt; Stig Hjarvard; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; capitalism; journalistic modes of writing; media discourse; cultural materialist CDA; dialectics; dysfunctional homologies; ideologemes.; Media and communication studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Media and Communication Studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap;

    Abstract : The purpose of the study is to analyse the relationship between the capitalist hegemonic order and the mass media, with the latter restricted to two elite newspapers (Swedish DN and Slovenian Delo) and the selection of news materials from three bodies of international media coverage: NATO’s military intervention in former Yugoslavia, 1999, the political demonstrations against the IMF and the World Bank in Prague, 2000, and 9/11, 2001. There are two sub-purposes, one theoretical-methodological and one political-democratic. READ MORE

  3. 13. Resistive Wall Mode Stability and Control in the Reversed Field Pinch

    Author : Dmitriy Yadikin; Per Brunsell; Mikhail Gryaznevich; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resistive wall modes; RWM; active control; feedback; MHD modes; Reversed-Field pinch; RFP; intelligent shell; mode control; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : Control of MHD instabilities using a conducting wall together with external magnetic fields is an important route to improved performance and reliability in fusion devices. Active control of MHD modes is of interest for both the Advanced Tokamak and the Reversed Field Pinch (RFP) configurations. READ MORE

  4. 14. Edge Modes of Zn Symmetric Chains

    Author : Iman Mahyaeh; Eddy Ardonne; Mariana Malard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : In this Licentiate Thesis we will study the topological phases of Z2 and Z3 symmetric chains. We will present the Kitaev chain, a Z2 symmetric model of spinless fermions, and obtain all the eigenstates of the model with an open boundary condition which hosts Majorana zero modes in the topological phase. 5. 15. Transport Modes in Nanotube-Vesicle Networks

    Author : Michal Tokarz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion; confinement; liposome; biomimetic; micromanipulation; Vesicle; electrophoresis; network; nanotube; transport;

    Abstract : Methods for construction of surface-immobilized microscopic networks of phospholipid bilayer vesicles (3-50 µm in diameter) interconnected by lipid tubes (30-150 nm in radius), have previously been developed. The networks have controlled connectivity and are well-defined with regard to container size, content, angle between nanotube extensions, and nanotube length. READ MORE
