  1. 16. The nature of stars with a common origin: clues from metallicity, elemental abundances, and kinematics

    Author : Cheng Liu; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stars: abundances; Galaxy: evolution; Galaxy: solar neighbourhood; Galaxy: bulge; Galaxy: globular clusters;

    Abstract : Most of field stars originate from dissolved star clusters. If the gas cloud is well mixed the stars in the cluster are expected to be chemically homogenous. READ MORE

  2. 17. Lumbar muscle fatigue : analysis of electromyography, endurance time and subjective factors in patients with lumbar disc herniation and healthy subjects

    Author : Åsa Dedering; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Disability; electromyography; endurance; gender; healthy subjects; lumbar disc herniation; lumbar extensor muscles; muscle fatigue; non-linear regression; recovery; subjective ratings;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the thesis was to investigate the relation between objectively and subjectively assessed lumbar muscle fatigue and subjective factors in patients with lumbar disc herniation and in healthy subjects. Eighty healthy subjects and 43 patients undergoing surgery for lumbar disc herniation and selected consecutively for the study participated. READ MORE

  3. 18. 3D-modeling of the Skellefte district using electrical, potential field and reflection-seismic data : A basis for 4D-modeling of mineral belts

    Author : Saman Tavakoli; Lena Persson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geofysik; Applied Geophysics;

    Abstract : As a part of a 4D modeling project, two studies with different scopes were conducted in the central Skellefte district (CSD), northern Sweden. The aim of the studies is to create a basis for a better understanding of the spatial relationship between geological structures and mineralization and to construct a 3D and 4D geology model of the area. 4. 19. Constructing the six-dimensional (2,0) theories

    Author : Erik Flink; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Field theory in higher dimensions; M-theory; string theory;

    Abstract : In this thesis we give a brief review of the six-dimensional(2,0) theories and how they emerge from the study of string/M-theory. In particular, the A_N version of (2,0) theory is the world-volume theory of N+1 parallel M5-branes in the limit where gravity decouples. READ MORE

  5. 20. A Particle Image Velocimetry Study of Bubbly Gas-Liquid Flow

    Author : Xiaoyun Tu; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent dispersion; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; turbulence; Rushton turbine; stirred tank; slip velocity; bubbly gas liquid two-phase flow; coherent structure; CCD camera; PIV; POD;

    Abstract : The aim of this work is to build a framework that can be used for characterizing the bubbly gas liquid turbulent flow in the stirred bioreactor tank. To this end we have developed and modified techniques with which to measure the velocity of both dispersed gas and carrier liquid phases by the optical measurement technique, a 2-CCD camera Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system; and to characterize the turbulence by the wavelets tool, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD).
