1. Change Detection Using Multitemporal SAR Images
Abstract : Multitemporal SAR images have been used successfully for the detection of different types of environmental changes. The detection of urban change using SAR images is complicated due to the special characteristics of SAR images—for example, the existence of speckle and the complex mixture of the urban environment. 2. The modified Iosipescu shear test for orthotropic materials
Abstract : AbstractThe Iosipescu shear test, also known as asymmetric four point bending of a V-notched beam,is frequently used for measuring in-plane shear properties of composites. The ASTM standard(ASTM D-5379-05) regulates how the test is to be performed. READ MORE

3. Chemically Modified Metal Oxide Nanostructures Electrodes for Sensing and Energy Conversion
Abstract : The goal of this thesis is the development of scalable, low cost synthesis of metal oxide nanostructures based electrodes and to correlate the chemical modifications with their energy conversion performance. Methods in energy conversion in this thesis have focused on two aspects; a potentiometric chemical sensor was used to determine the analytical concentration of some components of the analyte solution such as dopamine, glucose and glutamate molecules. 4. Methods to measure mass transfer kinetics, partition ratios and atmospheric fluxes of organic chemicals in forest systems
Abstract : Vegetation plays an important role in the partitioning, transport and fate of hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) in the environment. This thesis aimed at addressing two key knowledge gaps in our understanding of how plants exchange HOCs with the atmosphere: (1) To improve our understanding of the uptake of HOCs into, and transfer through, leaves of different plant species which can significantly influence the transport and fate of HOCs in the environment; and (2) To evaluate an experimental approach to measure fluxes of HOCs in the field. 5. Modified and hybrid cellulose-based materials for water purification
Abstract : The need for clean water has led to the development of several different water treatment methods as well as to a large number of organic, inorganic, hybrid and/or composite materials that are used in these methods. Cellulose, being a highly abundant biopolymer with meritorious properties, such as high mechanical strength, tunable surface chemistry, high aspect ratio and surface area, to mention a few, is exploited in the current thesis for water treatment applications.
