  1. 1. Clinical aspects of hidradenitis suppurativa

    Author : Hassan Killasli; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is often a chronic skin disease of unknown etiology characterized by formation of non-infectious inflammatory nodules, abscesses, and suppurating skin tunnels mainly in axillae and groins. The lesions are painful, scarring, malodorous and cause suffering, and social stigmatization. READ MORE

  2. 2. Visuospatial inattention and processing speed : Predictors of long-term outcome and patterns of change after ischemic stroke

    Author : Joel Gerafi; Hans Samuelsson; Tom Manly; Högskolan i Skövde; []

    Abstract : Impairments of visuospatial attention, language, and processing speed (PS) are common early after stroke and have been associated with unfavorable short-term functional outcomes but little is known about this relationship in the long-term. This thesis investigates 1) the potential importance of visuospatial inattention (VSI) and language impairments (LI) as predictors of functional outcomes 7 years after an ischemic stroke (studies I-II) and 2) presence of lateralized inattention 7 years after stroke and potential predictors of this phenomenon (study III). 3. 3. Hidradenitis suppurativa : clinical studies with focus on evaluation

    Author : Karin Sartorius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of mainly unknown aetiology which in most cases involves axillae or groins and that can last for decades. In this thesis different clinical aspects of HS are studied: development of a clinical scoring system, relation to smoking and obesity, outcome of laser surgery, bacteraemia in HS patients and distribution of the neuroendocrine marker protein gene product (PGP) 9. 4. 4. Life Satisfaction and the Oldest-Old. Results from the longitudinal population study "Good Aging in Skåne"

    Author : Åsa Enkvist; Geriatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Life Satisfaction; Oldest-Old;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study life satisfaction (LS) and factors associated to LS in the group aged 78 and above. As an aid in interpreting the findings, Baltes’ and Baltes’ theory of selective optimisation with compensation (SOC) was used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Safe labor : reappraisal of labor duration and management for safe maternal and infant outcome

    Author : Louise Lundborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: The partograph, today used worldwide for assessing normal labor progress and identifying prolonged labor is based on Friedman’s research findings from the 1950s, based on 500 deliveries. Friedman established a series of definitions of time parameters, labor curves and phases to detect normal and abnormal labor progress and incorporated it into the Partograph. READ MORE
