  1. 1. Remote sensing of supra-glacial lakes on the west Greenland Ice Sheet

    Author : A. Malin Johansson; Ian A. Brown; Peter Jansson; Johan Kleman; Andreas Ahlstrøm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Supra-glacial lakes; Greenland Ice Sheet; Ice melting; Remote sensing; SAR; MODIS; Time-series analysis; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The Greenland Ice Sheet is the largest ice sheet in the northern hemisphere. Ongoing melting of the ice sheet, resulting in increased mass loss relative to the longer term trend, has raised concerns about the stability of the ice sheet. Melt water generated at the surface is temporarily stored in supra-glacial lakes on the ice sheet. READ MORE

  2. 2. Advanced Remote Sensing Precipitation Input for Improved Runoff Simulation : Local to regional scale modelling

    Author : Seyyed Hasan Hosseini; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Precipitation; Rainfall; Satellite; Runoff; Streamflow; Rainfall-runoff modelling; X-band weather radar; GPM-IMERG; MODIS Terra;

    Abstract : Accurate precipitation data are crucial for hydrological modelling and rainwater runoff management. Precipitation variability exists through a wide range of spatial and temporal scales and cannot be captured well using sparse rain gauge networks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Model development for estimating carbon dioxide exchange in Nordic forests and peatlands with MODIS time series data

    Author : Per Schubert; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The ongoing increase in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations causes an increase in the global mean air temperature. One important moderator of the atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration is the gas exchange between the atmosphere and the biosphere; photosynthesis extracts and respiration releases CO2, resulting in a net exchange. 4. 4. Vegetation Observation in the Big Data Era : Sentinel-2 data for mapping the seasonality of land vegetation

    Author : Zhanzhang Cai; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sentinel-2; Times-series analysis; Phenology; GPP;

    Abstract : Using satellite remote sensing data for observing vegetation seasonality is an important approach to estimate phenology and carbon uptake of land vegetation. The successful launch of Sentinel-2B in 2017 initiated full operation of the Sentinel-2 twin satellites, and they now provide 10 - 60 m spatial resolution satellite data at 5 days temporal resolution worldwide, releasing approximately 3. 5. 5. Satellite remote sensing of primary production in semi-arid Africa

    Author : Martin Sjöström; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; remote sensing; primary production; vegetation index; savanna; grassland;

    Abstract : With the challenges Africa faces with respect to the predicted warming due to climate change, the continents role in the global carbon cycle has been increasingly recognized. Earth observing satellites have played a significant role in the study of vegetation, particularly in Africa where climate stations are sparse. READ MORE
