    Abstract : This dissertation studies the social aspects of technology in distance education trough the lens of history – in the form of correspondence education – and a possible future – in the form of a project of technical standardization, Learning Objects. The studied cases form a reflexive tool that allows the present of distance education to be seen in perspective. READ MORE

  2. 2. Software Solutions for Nuclear Imaging Systems in Cardiology, Small Animal Research and Education

    Author : Iván Valastyán; Andras Kerek; Michael Ljungberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical technology; Medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : The sensitivity for observing physiological processes makes nuclear imaging an important tool in medical diagnostics. Different types of nuclear imaging modalities, with emphasis on the software components and image reconstructions, are presented in this thesis:  the Cardiotom for myocardial heart studies at the Karolinska University Hospital, the small animal Positron Emission Tomograph (PET) scanners for research and the SPECT, PET, spiral CT and Cardiotom demonstrators for the Royal Institute of Technology medical imaging laboratory. 3. 3. A Verification Framework for Component Based Modeling and Simulation : “Putting the pieces together”

    Author : Imran Mahmood; Rassul Ayani; Gary Tan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Modeling and Simulation; Component-based development; Composability; Semantic Composability; Dynamic-Semantic Composability; Verification; Correctness; Petri Nets Analysis; Algebraic Techniques; Colored Petri Nets; State-space Analysis; Communicating Sequential Processes; Model Checking.; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : The discipline of component-based modeling and simulation offers promising gains including reduction in development cost, time, and system complexity. This paradigm is very profitable as it promotes the use and reuse of modular components and is auspicious for effective development of complex simulations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Platform Design : Creating Meaningful Toolboxes When People Meet

    Author : David Joaquin Cuartielles Ruiz; Teemu Leinonen; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Platform Design; Interaction Design;

    Abstract : Platform Design is a study of different viewpoints on the creation of digital systems, and how they converge in platforms designed, built, and managed by communities. As sociotechnical constructs in which features emerge through the interaction of different stakeholders, platforms are understood as both means and outcomes—the ‘things’ or boundary objects in a design process—generating the spaces where communities of practice can form. 5. 5. Modularity in industrialised timber housing : a lean approach to develop building service systems

    Author : Martin Lennartsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träbyggnad; Timber Structures;

    Abstract : Modularity has been applied in various disciplines, e.g. manufacturing, computer, cognitive science and education. General advantages are platform thinking and module variants which provide a range of product variants using a small number of components. READ MORE
