1. Topological and geometrical methods in data analysis
Abstract : This thesis concerns two related data analysis pipelines, using topological and geometrical methods respectively, to extract relevant information. The first pipeline, referred to as the topological data analysis (TDA) pipeline, constructs a filtered simplicial complex on a given data set in order to describe its shape. READ MORE

2. Simple Modules over Lie Algebras
Abstract : Simple modules are the elemental components in representation theory for Lie algebras, and numerous mathematicians have worked on their construction and classification over the last century. This thesis consists of an introduction together with four research articles on the subject of simple Lie algebra modules. READ MORE

3. Mathematical modelling in upper secondary mathematics education in Sweden
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to investigate and enhance our understanding of the notions of mathematical models and modelling at the Swedish upper secondary school level. Focus is on how mathematical models and modelling are viewed by the different actors in the school system, and what characterises the collaborative process of a didactician and a group of teachers engaged in designing and developing, implementing and evaluating teaching modules (so called modelling modules) exposing students to mathematical modelling in line with the present mathematics curriculum. 4. Dualities, affine vertex operator algebras, and geometry of complex polynomials
Abstract : This thesis consists of two parts which deal with different subjects. In the first part we study certain aspects of the representation theory of affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras and related structures. READ MORE

5. Ekedahl Invariants, Veronese Modules and Linear Recurrence Varieties
Abstract : The title of this thesis refers to the three parts of which it is composed. The first part concerns the Ekedahl Invariants, new geometric invariants for finite groups introduced in 2009 by Torsten Ekedahl. READ MORE
