  1. 1. Molecular Insight into Ion-Specific Interactions : Vibrational Sum Frequency Study of the Carboxylic Acid Moiety

    Author : Adrien Sthoer; Eric Tyrode; Paul Cremer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; specific ion effects; carboxylic acid; fatty acid Langmuir monolayer; vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy; VSFS; Electrical double layer;

    Abstract : Ion specific effects at charged interfaces find numerous applications in colloidal sciences and play a vital role in many biological processes. Despite having been studied for over a century, starting with the work of F. Hofmeister in the 1880s, a comprehensive molecular  understanding remains elusive. READ MORE

  2. 2. Syntheses of some tri- and tetracyclic heterocycles containing an indole moiety

    Author : Robert Engqvist; jan Bergman; Victor Snieckus; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Alkaloid; drug development; heterocycles; indole; metabolite; synthesis; X-ray crystallography;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of new synthetic methods leading to fused tri- and tetracyclic heterocycles, many of which have interesting biological activity such as antiviral and DNA intercalating properties. The reactions between isatins and 2-aminobenzylamine in acetic acid can give, depending on the conditions, either complex spirooxindoles or indolo[3,2-c]quinolin-6-ones. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis of 5'-C-phosphonomethyl, 2'-C- and 3'-C-branched nucleoside analogues as potential candidates for therapeutic intervention towards HIV

    Author : Panagiotis Ioannidis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Syntheses of some 5'-C-phosphonomethyl-, 2'-C- and 3'-C-branched nucleoside analogues as potential anti-HIV agents are described. Synthesis of the various nucleoside analogues is based either on the construction of a suitably protected sugar moiety that can be glycosylated with different nucleoside bases by the Vorbrüggen procedure, or on the use of a novel alcohol transposition in the carbohydrate moiety of different 2'-C- or 3'-C-methylene nucleoside analogues, using the reagent system chlorodiphenylphosphine-iodine-imidazole. 4. 4. Unsymmetrical Diaryliodonium Salts : Development and Chemoselectivity studies

    Author : Joel Malmgren; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The first part describes a chemoselectivity study on diaryliodonium salts where oxygen, nitrogen and carbon nucleophiles have been arylated. Twelve different unsymmetric phenyl(aryl)iodonium salts were designed with a systematic variation of the steric and electronic properties of the aryl group. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synthesis of Organic Chromophores for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Daniel Hagberg; Licheng Sun; Elena Galoppini; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Acceptor; chromophore; donor; dye sensitized solar cells; HOMO and LUMO energy level tuning; linker; organic dye.; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract :   This thesis deals with development and synthesis of organic chromophores for dye sensitized solar cells. The chromophores are divided into three components; donor, linker and acceptor. The development of efficient organic chromophores for dye sensitized solar cells starts off with one new organic chromophore, D5. READ MORE
