21. Design and Synthesis of Aspartic and Serine Protease Inhibitors : Targeting the BACE-1 and the HCV NS3 Protease
Abstract : This thesis describes work done to design and synthesize protease inhibitors, with the intention of developing therapeutic agents for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and the chronic liver condition caused by infection of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). AD is the most common form of dementia, and HCV infection is the primary reason for liver transplantation in industrialized countries. READ MORE

22. Nickel and iridium pincer complexes with saturated frameworks - synthesis and reactivity
Abstract : As the tridentate chelate complexes referred to as pincer complexes have expanded their scope as homogeneous catalysts, there is an increased interest in electronic and steric fine-tuning of such complexes. One accessible variable in this aspect is the hybridisation of any coordinated carbon atoms. READ MORE

23. Structural biology of carbohydrate transfer and modification in natural product biosynthesis
Abstract : Certain organisms, can during periods of limited resources, adapt their metabolism to enable biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, compounds that increase competitiveness and chances of survival. The subjects of this thesis are enzymes acting on carbohydrate substrates during secondary metabolism. READ MORE

24. Anti-gene oligonucleotides : DNA binding and therapeutic application
Abstract : The field of nucleic acid therapeutics has in the last decade experienced substantial growth. This is evident from a multitude of new publications, an increasing number of clinical trials and several approved therapeutics on the market. READ MORE

25. Unveiling biomacromolecule interactions-NMR and optical spectroscopy studies on ligand binding to DNA and lysozyme
Abstract : Studies on intercalation of bulky binuclear ruthenium compounds into DNA have attracted attention due to their slow dissociation rate and sequence selectivity. Previous results showed that dumb-bell shaped molecules of the type [μ-(bidppz)(L)4Ru2]4+, L=phenanthroline or bipyridine, bind rapidly on the surface of DNA prior to intercalation. READ MORE
