21. Porous structures based on nanopolysaccharides for medical applications
Abstract : Recently, the use of bio-based nanomaterials has attracted much interest in medical applications due to their cytocompatibility, good moisture stability, good mechanical properties, hydrophilic surfaces and their ability to form porous structures. The aim of this work is to develop porous nanocomposites based on nanochitin and nanocellulose with controlled pore size and porosity in order to facilitate cell growth and interconnectivity and to investigate their potential in wound dressing and cartilage regeneration. 22. Polymer-coated paper and board - Role of substrate, polymer characteristics and additives
Abstract : The surface roughness of paper or board has a significant influence on the homogeneity of an applied polymer film, and this thesis discusses how it may be improved by a surface treatment, e.g. high-temperature calendering or precoating. READ MORE

23. Continuum modeling of the coupled transport of mass, energy, and momentum in paperboard
Abstract : This thesis investigates the coupling between moisture, heat, and deformation in paperboard. The presented investigations are primarily conducted via macroscale continuum modeling but experimental characterisations are also made. READ MORE

24. Traditional lime mortar and plaster : Reconstruction with emphasis on durability
Abstract : Lime mortar and plaster have been investigated with the aim to improve the knowledge on how to make them as durable as before the cement technology was developed. The background was the durability problems experienced for newly produced lime plaster on the medieval churches on the island of Gotland, Sweden. READ MORE

25. Drying and Pyrolysis of Logs of Wood
Abstract : This work concerns log firing in small-scale boilers for house heating, which in Sweden meets a heat demand of 12 TWh a year. In boilers used for domestic central heating in the sizes of 10 to 30 kW the predominant combustion technique is grate firing. READ MORE
