  1. 1. Molecular Electronics - Modeling, Devices and Architecture

    Author : Jonas Sköldberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular electronics; memristor; self-assembly; threshold logic; switching networks; hybrid devices; NDR; hysteresis; reconfigurable logic; nanocell;

    Abstract : Molecular electronics is an area of micro/nanoelectronics with a number of farreaching goals and challenges: denser implementation of electronic memory and logic, less expensive manufacturing, smaller or more sensitive measurement devices, selfassembly of devices and systems and, last but not least, exploring new science and applications.In recent years, molecular electronics has expanded into a broader field of molecular-scale electronics, partly because molecular components have to be defined in solid-state contexts via lithography and self-assembly, and effectively become hybrid devices with new and interesting properties. 2. 2. Mimicking the Binary World: Photochromic Compounds in Molecular Logic

    Author : Martin Hammarson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA; dithienylethene; molecular logic; spiropyran; photochromism; porphyrin;

    Abstract : The language of the binary world is used in, e.g., electronic circuits of a computer where a signal either can be on, known as 1 or off, known as 0. In the effort to make things smaller, molecules that mimic this binary world have been suggested as potential replacements for electronic circuits. READ MORE

  3. 3. Photochromism - Logic and Biologic Approaches

    Author : Martin Hammarson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA-binding; molecular logic; dithienylethene; photochromism; DNA; photoswitch; spiropyran;

    Abstract : Photochromism is the light-induced colour change of molecules called photo-chromic compounds. The isomerisation causes changes in the electronic properties of the molecules and rearrangements of bonds which can be used in many more applications than the observed colour change. READ MORE

  4. 4. Norbornadienes for Solar Thermal Energy Storage and New Applications

    Author : Ambra Dreos; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal energy storage; molecular logic; Solar energy; molecular switch- es; energy conversion; quadricyclane; molecular keypad locks; norbornadiene;

    Abstract : The energy demand worldwide is steadily increasing, therefore it is fundamental to efficiently utilise renewable energy resources. Energy storage technologies are partic- ularly relevant in order to be able to exploit renewable energy resources such as solar energy, since these are typically intermittent and not evenly distributed. 5. 5. ALL-OPTICAL CONTROL OF MOLECULAR FUNCTIONS - ENERGY TRANSFER SWITCHING AND INFORMATION PROCESSING

    Author : Magnus Bälter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; white-light generation; molecular logic; spiropyran; photochromism; DNA-binding; diarylethene; energy transfer; all-photonic; fulgimide; dithienylethene; photoswitch; fluorescence modulation;

    Abstract : In this work, the photoswitching of molecular systems endowed with photochromic functionality have been investigated for the reversible photonic gating of excitation energy transfer (FRET) reactions as well as in application for all-photonic molecular logic. The presented systems involves the integration of photochromic entities within both covalent and non-covalent designs and serves to implicate photonic switching of molecular level phenomena. READ MORE
