1. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of water self-diffusion in porous systems
Abstract : Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the self-diffusion of water in porous systems that respond to a change in water content in order to elucidate the porous structure and the properties of the confined water. In the carbohydrate systems cellulose fibers and starch granules, water is free to move throughout the porous objects, albeit with a rate reduced from the value of the bulk liquid, The reduction is related to the tortuosity of the pore space filled by water. 2. Molecular Association Studied by NMR Spectroscopy
Abstract : This Thesis presents studies of molecular association in aqueous solution and at the liquid/solid interface. The investigated molecular systems range from self-aggregating surfactants to hydration water in contact with micelles or individual molecules. In most studies, combinations of various NMR methods were applied. READ MORE

3. Dispersing Carbon Nanotubes: Towards Molecular Understanding
Abstract : Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) exhibit unique and fascinating intrinsic electrical, optical, thermal or mechanical properties that lead to a plethora of potential applications in composite materials, electronics, energy storage, medicine, among others. However, the manipulation of nanotubes is not trivial and there are significant difficulties to overcome before achieving their full potential in applications. READ MORE

4. Physico-Chemical Properties of Plant Polysaccharides Investigated with NMR Techniques
Abstract : In the lead of developing new biomaterials from plant sources it is of importance to be able to control and vary the properties, such as flexibility, strength, and hygroscopicity of the final material. These properties are highly directed by the interactions between constituents on a molecular level. READ MORE

5. Hydrophobically Modified Polymers. Rheology and Molecular Associations
Abstract : Structure- property relationships and thickening mechanism in aqueous solution of two hydrophobically modified polymers (HM-P) with different architecture have been investigated. The two polymers, hydrophobically modified ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (HM-EHEC) and hydrophobically modified polyethylene glycol (HM-PEG), are commonly used as associative thickeners in the paint industry.
