  1. 11. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes

    Author : Simon Ekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. 2. 12. Trophic complexity of zooplankton–cyanobacteria interactions in the Baltic Sea : Insights from molecular diet analysis

    Author : Nisha H. Motwani; Elena Gorokhova; Jakob Walve; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bloom-forming filamentous cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; picocyanobacteria; zooplankton; grazing; molecular diet analysis; stable isotopes; biochemical indices; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Blooms of nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria (NFC) occur in many freshwater and marine systems, including the Baltic Sea. By fixing dissolved nitrogen, they circumvent general summer nitrogen limitation, while also generating a supply of novel bioavailable nitrogen for non-diazotrophic primary producers and ultimately supporting secondary production. 3. 13. Towards bacterial valorization of low molecular weight lignin

    Author : Krithika Ravi; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pseudomonas putida; Microbacterium sp.; Guaiacol; Syringate; Kraft lignin; Bioconversion; Biorefineries;

    Abstract : Lignin is one of the major constituents in lignocellulosic biomass and is the mostabundant source of renewable aromatics on terrestrial ecosystems. The workcarried out in this thesis concerns bacterial conversion of low molecular weightlignin. READ MORE

  4. 14. Studies of PDGF receptor signaling in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Maria Tsioumpekou; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Jean-Baptiste Demoulin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PDGF; signaling; cancer; Erk5; kinase; Cbl; ubiquitination; deubiquitinase; pericytes; tumor growth; angiogenesis; low molecular weight inhibitors;

    Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) signaling is essential for proliferation, migration and survival of cells of mesenchymal origin; however, its deregulation has been associated with various diseases, including cancer. The aim of this thesis was to clarify the molecular mechanisms of PDGFR signaling regulation. READ MORE

  5. 15. Dietary, Pharmacological and Environmental Effects on Brown Adipose Tissue

    Author : Erik Lindsund; Tore Bengtsson; Jan Nedergaard; Karsten Kristiansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Obesity; brown adipose tissue; uncoupling protein 1; moderate cold exposure; calorimetry; thyroxine; dietary protein; thermic effect of food; diet-induced thermogenesis; adrenergic stimulation; mice; physiology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Obesity is a common health issue; over 12 % of the adult world population have obesity. Obesity has many co-morbidities including cardo-vascular diseases and diabetes. Obesity is the result of chronic positive energy balance, eating too much and expending too little. READ MORE
