1. Alloys in Contact with Molten Salts for Thermal Storage Applications
Abstract : The combination of a concentrated solar power (CSP) plant and a thermal energy storage (TES) system is a promising technology for power generation, in that it overcomes the challenges commonly faced by renewable energy systems, such as intermittency, dispatchability, and the gap between the energy supply and energy demand. The third generation (Gen3) CSP plants are designed to increase plant efficiency by using supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) instead of steam for the Brayton cycle gas turbines, requiring a minimum operating temperature of 750°C for the TES materials. 2. Corrosion of High-Temperature Alloys in Molten Salts
Abstract : Concentrated solar power (CSP) is an interesting technology that involves storing solar energy in the form of heat and subsequently converting it into electricity. The third-generation (Gen3) CSP plants aim to operate at temperatures >700°C, necessitating the deployment of new heat storage materials that can withstand such high operating temperatures. READ MORE

3. Molten carbonate fuel cells for electrolysis
Abstract : The molten carbonate fuel cell has evolved to current megawatt-scale commercial power plants. When using the fuel cell for electrolysis, it provides a promising option for producing fuel gases such as hydrogen and syngas. The cell can thereby operate reversibly as a dual energy converter for electricity generation and fuel gas production. READ MORE

4. Molten Salt Electrolytes for Calcium Batteries
Abstract : Batteries are in higher demand than ever before as well as increased requirements in terms of energy and power density. The desire for higher energy density has meant that electrolytes are pushed above their electrochemical stability limits and hence they decompose, but typically this is under control and a new beneficial phase is created at the electrode surface; the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). 5. Intermediate Temperature Solid Ionic Conductors and Fuel Cells
Abstract : Novel solid proton conductors based on oxyacid salts and salt-ceramic composites and intermediate temperature fuel cells have been developed in this thesis work. The discovery of proton conduction in these materials introduces a new concept of proton conductors and starts a new research field - Intermediate Temperature Solid Proton Conductors and Fuel Cells.
