  1. 1. Monocytes, Tissue Factor and Heparin-coated Surfaces Clinical and Experimental Studies

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Matilda Johnell; Uppsala universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; monocytes; tissue factor; heparin-coated surfaces; coagulation; inflammation; thrombin; cytokines; cardiopulmonary bypass; biocompatibility; migration; chemotaxis; Medicin; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with inflammatory response and activation of coagulation. Heparin coating of the CPB circuit is shown to improve the biocompatibility of the surface. The biological effects of a new heparin surface, the Corline Heparin Surface (CHS), prepared according to a new principle, have been studied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monocytes and macrophages, with a focus of Crohn's disease

    University dissertation from Gastroenterology, Dept of Clinical Sciences, Malmö, Lund University

    Author : Susanne Thiesen; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Crohn s disease; Cystatin C; Cytokines; Intestine; Macrophages; Monocytes; Gene-expression;

    Abstract : Monocytes and macrophages are part of the body’s first line of defense, eliminating pathogens by phagocytosis or by releasing a broad array of inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines, chemokines and proteases. In humans, three subsets of monocytes are described with seemingly different functions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microbial and maternal influences on allergic sensitization during childhood: defining a role for monocytes

    University dissertation from Stockholm : The Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm University
