6. Effects of Citric Acid on Starch-Based Barrier Coatings
Abstract : With growing environmental concerns, efforts are made to replace petroleum based products with renewable alternatives. This is particularly evident in the packaging industry, where replacing synthetic polymers with renewable materials is of considerable interest. READ MORE

7. Swelling and Microstructure of Nanoplatelet Systems
Abstract : Many clay minerals consist of charged nanoplatelets that swell in an aqueous solution. The swelling and the microstructure depend on the type of clay mineral but are also dependent on, for example, the ionic composition and the temperature of the solution. READ MORE

8. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies on bentonite in complex mixed systems
Abstract : In this work 23Na MAS NMR was validated as a successful quantitative method for studies of exchanging sodium in bentonites useful, in particular, for studies of ion-exchange kinetics. Na-enriched bentonites equilibrated in a re-circulated process water at iron-oxide pelletizing plants may acquire properties of Ca-bentonites after already 20 minutes of the equilibration time, since >50 % of sodium ions will be exchanged by calcium ions during first minutes of bentonite placed in contact with the process water. 9. Molecular-level controls on water and organics intercalation in layered minerals
Abstract : Layered minerals are naturally abundant and often display a large surface area in relation to their weight. For swelling layered minerals, most of this area is contained between the layers in the interlayer space. READ MORE

10. Evaluation of the Tactoid Formation in Clay Systems
Abstract : Clay minerals consist of anisotropic nanoplatelets where the majority of the clay minerals are highly charged, and thus, swell in aqueous solution. The structure and swelling depend on the type of clay mineral, and also on the ionic composition, and temperature. READ MORE
