  1. 6. Genomic mutational heterogeneity in cancer. lmproved models and tools for driver gene detection

    Author : Martin Boström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; genomics; ultraviolet light; mutational heterogeneity;

    Abstract : Cancer is a disease that is strongly related to evolution, as mutations that confer a benefit to individual cells face positive selection and eventually lead to tumorigenesis. As such, the search for genes that drive cancer development entails distinguishing positive selection from other sources of increased mutation rates, which requires detailed knowledge of how normal mutation rates vary across the genome. 2. 7. The study of sensory cilia development in caenorhabditis elegans

    Author : Evgeni Efimenko; Peter Swoboda; Philippe Bastin; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cilia and flagella are widespread eukaryotic subcellular components that are conserved from green algae to mammals. In different organisms they function in cell motility, movement of extracellular fluids and sensory reception. READ MORE

  3. 8. Structure-Based Design and Synthesis of Protease Inhibitors Using Cycloalkenes as Proline Bioisosteres and Combinatorial Syntheses of a Targeted Library

    Author : Fredrik Thorstensson; Ingemar Kvarnström; Charles Hedgecock; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic chemistry; organic synthesis; combinatorial synthesis; metathesis; olefin metathesis; thrombin; HCV; NS3; protease; proline isosteres; inhibitor; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes;

    Abstract : Structure-based drug design and combinatorial chemistry play important roles in the search for new drugs, and both these elements of medicinal chemistry were included in the present studies. This thesis outlines the synthesis of protease inhibitors against thrombin and the HCV NS3 protease, as well as the synthesis of a combinatorial library using solid phase chemistry. READ MORE

  4. 9. Mechanistic studies of a novel inhibitor of the ubiquitin-proteasome system

    Author : Ellin-Kristina Hillert; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) not only maintains cellular proteostasis, but plays an essential role in multiple vital cellular processes, including survival and growth. Proteasomal inhibitors, such as bortezomib, have been shown to have effective anti-cancer properties, verifying the UPS as a viable drug target in cancer treatment. READ MORE

  5. 10. Molecular Electronic Devices based on Ru(II) Thiophenyl Pyridine and Thienopyridine Architecture

    Author : Robert Steen; Simon Dunne; Sarah Angus-Dunne; Kenneth Wärnmark; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Molecular Electronics; Organic Synthesis; Ruthenium; Pyridyl Complexes; Ligand Design; Fused Ligands; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik; Biotechnology Chemical Engineering; bioteknik kemiteknik;

    Abstract : According to the famous axiom known as Moore’s Law the number of transistors that can be etched on a given piece of ultra-pure silicon, and therefore the computing power, will double every 18 to 24 months. However, around 2020 hardware manufacturers will have reached the physical limits of silicon. READ MORE
