  1. 1. Development of the Mouse Lateral Telencephalon

    Author : Jan Stenman; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; teratologi; embryologi människa ; Utvecklingsbiologi; ontogeny; embryology human ; teratology; Development biology; progenitor domains; striatum; olfactory bulb; amygdala; development; telencephalon; patterning; mouse;

    Abstract : The telencephalon is the most rostral part of the vertebrate central nervous system and is comprised of a number of structures important for voluntary movements and higher cognitive processes. This thesis focuses on the genetic mechanisms that control development of a number of telencephalic structures: the olfactory bulb, the striatum as well as the lateral and basolateral nuclei of the amygdala. Abstract : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular Interactions with Extracellular Matrix During Development and in Muscle Disease

    Author : Carl-Fredrik Tiger; Anders Aspberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; integrin; laminin; collagen; muscle; tendon; skeleton; mouse; human; development; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The formation and maintenance of tissues in multicellular animals are crucially dependent on cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Two different studies on such interactions are presented herein. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functions of Heparan Sulfate During Mouse Development : Studies of Mice with Genetically Altered Heparan Sulfate Biosynthesis

    Author : Maria Ringvall; Lena Kjellén; Erik Forsberg; Ulf Lindahl; Erika Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; embryonic development; gene targeting; lung development; ossification; heparan sulfate; heparin; N-deacetylase N-sulfaotransferase; NDST; proteoglycan; morphogen; biosynthesis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a ubiquitous polysaccharide on the cell surface and in the extracellular matrix. HS is an important actor in the regulation of cell signaling, especially in the developing embryo. READ MORE

  5. 5. Heparan Sulfate and Development : A Study of NDST Deficient Mice and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Author : Katarina Holmborn; Lena Kjellén; Erik Forsberg; Catherine L. Merry; Uppsala universitet; []
