  1. 11. The MEN 1 Pancreas : Tumor Development and Haploinsufficiency

    Author : Margareta Halin Lejonklou; Britt Skogseid; Peter Stålberg; Andreea Barbu; Gerard Doherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEN 1; PNET; tumor development; haploinsufficiency; survivin; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Abstract : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I Syndrome (MEN 1) is a monogenic autosomal dominantly inherited cancer syndrome caused by a heterozygous loss of the MEN1 gene, predisposing for endocrine cell proliferation and tumor formation. MEN 1 carriers classically develop tumors in endocrine organs; the parathyroids, the endocrine pancreas, and the pituitary. READ MORE

  2. 12. Regulation of site-selective A-to-I RNA editing : During mammalian brain development

    Author : Helene Wahlstedt; Marie Öhman; Mary O'connell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RNA editering; ADAR; brain development; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Adenosine (A) to inosine (I) RNA editing is a widespread post-transcriptional mechanism in mammals that contributes to increase the protein diversity. Adenosine deaminases that act on RNA (ADARs) are the enzymes catalyzing RNA editing. ADARs are particularly active within the brain where they act on transcripts involved in neurotransmission. 3. 13. Spleno-pancreatic development assessed by 3D molecular imaging

    Author : Amir Asayesh; Ulf Ahlgren; Beatriz Sosa-Pineda; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Spleen; Pancreas; Imaging; Development; Cellbiologi; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : The development of different organs and tissues along the gastrointestinal tract, including the pancreas, depends on signalling between the endoderm and the adjacent mesenchyme. The Nkx gene Bapx1 is involved in spatial control of organ-positioning in the spleno-pancreatic region, and deficiency in this gene results in unacceptable proximity of the splenic mesenchyme to the pancreas. 4. 14. Imaging the pancreas : new aspects on lobular development and adult constitution

    Author : Andreas Hörnblad; Ulf Ahlgren; Guy Rutter; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The mouse pancreas is a mixed exocrine and endocrine glandconsisting of three lobular compartments: the splenic, duodenal and gastric lobes. During embryogenesis, the pancreas forms from two progenitor populations located on the dorsal and ventral side of the primitive gut tube. READ MORE

  5. 15. Molecular and cellular mechanisms in the development of IDDM in non-obese diabetic mice

    Author : Cecilia Rietz; Inger Lundkvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is a disease caused by autoimmune destruction of the insulin producing b cells in the pancreas. The leukocytic infiltration into the b cell islets preceding disease is called insulitis. READ MORE
