  1. 21. Gene silencing and expression during mammalian development : The special case of the imprinted H19 gene

    Author : Kristian Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Development;

    Abstract : Embryonic development consists of a vast number of fine-tuned, complex processesthat organise the body plan and individual organs. To enable developmental decisions,genes pivotal for normal development must be stably activated and silenced, asappropriate. READ MORE

  2. 22. Development of Novel Models for Studying Osteoclasts

    Author : Christian Thudium; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoclast; Osteopetrosis; Osteoporosis; Bone; Hematopoiesis; Gene Therapy; Mouse Models; oc oc; RANK KO;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on developing and characterizing novel models for studying osteoclasts with an emphasis on how mutations abolishing osteoclastic acidification affect osteoclast signaling and bone remodeling, as well as how to treat patients bearing these rare mutations. Bone remodeling is under normal circumstances a tightly balanced process where resorption of bone by osteoclasts is followed by adequate amounts of bone formation by osteoblasts. READ MORE

  3. 23. The elephant in the cell : A multifaceted undertaking to uncover the molecular principles behind lymphatic endothelial cell identity

    Author : Virginia Panara; Katarzyna Koltowska; Taija Mäkinen; Marcel den Hoed; Sarah de Val; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphatic endothelium; Development; Epigenetic; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Abstract : The lymphatic vascular network is composed of a series of blind ended vessels, and is involved in physiological functions such as fluid homeostasis, lipid metabolism and immune trafficking. Despite lymphatic endothelial cells being derived from multiple organs, they share common molecular denominators, including the expression of the transcription factor Prox1. 4. 24. Molecular genetics of B- and T-lymphocyte development

    Author : Ingela Wikström; Dan Holmberg; Inga-Lill Mårtensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; lymphocyte development; Dmu protein; transcription factor; bHLH; E2-2; T cell; B cell; marginal zone; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Lymphocytes are essential for the generation of specific immunity. Development of B cells in the bone marrow and T cells in the thymus have several analogous features, and are tightly regulated processes. Even though there is an increasing amount of information concerning lymphopoiesis, a lot of questions remain. READ MORE

  5. 25. Influence of inflammation and of stage of lung development on the development of neonatal lung injury

    Author : Erica Bäckström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : premature birth; BPD; inflammation; IL-1β; lung development; gastric aspirates;

    Abstract : Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a major cause of mortality and long-term morbidity in prematurely born infants. Pulmonary inflammation, and abnormal alveolar and vascular development of the lung are histological characteristics of BPD. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a central cytokine in inflammation. READ MORE
