  1. 1. Modelling and Lagrangian control of mixed traffic: platoon coordination, congestion dissipation and state reconstruction

    Author : Mladen Čičić; Karl Henrik Johansson; Miroslav Krstić; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; traffic control; Lagrangian control; mixed traffic models; Intelligent Transportation Systems; Connected and Automated Vehicles; traffic congestion; platoon coordination; moving bottlenecks; bottleneck decongestion; stop-and-go wave dissipation; traffic state reconstruction; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Traffic congestion is a constantly growing problem, with a wide array of negative effects on the society, from wasted time and productivity to elevated air pollution and reduction of safety. The introduction of connected, autonomous vehicles enables a new, Lagrangian paradigm for sensing andcontrolling the traffic, by directly using connected vehicles inside the traffic flow, as opposed to the classical, Eulerian paradigm, which relies on stationary equipment on the road. 2. 2. Control of vehicle platoons and traffic dynamics : catch-up coordination and congestion dissipation

    Author : Mladen Čičić; Karl H. Johansson; Daniel Work; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Traffic Congestion; Intelligent Transport Systems; Moving Bottlenecks; Platoon Coordination; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Traffic congestion is a constantly growing problem, with a wide array ofnegative effects on the society, from wasted time and productivity to elevated air pollution and increased number of accidents. Classical traffic control methods have long been successfully employed to alleviate congestion, improving the traffic situation of many cities and highways. READ MORE

  3. 3. Event-Based Control and Estimation with Stochastic Disturbances

    Author : Toivo Henningsson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; event-based control; stochastic control; event-based estimation; control over networks; quantized measurements; sporadic control; embedded control;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with event-based control and estimation strategies, motivated by certain bottlenecks in the control loop. Two kinds of implementation constraints are considered: closing one or several control loops over a data network, and sensors that report measurements only as intervals (e.g. with quantization). 4. 4. Secure and scalable roaming support in heterogeneous access networks

    Author : Daniel Granlund; Mika Ylianttila; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Abstract : Mobility support for users connecting to the Internet is an increasing trend. Different types of access networks like WiFi, CDMA, and UMTS are available, creating a heterogeneous access network environment. In the Internet today, there are a number of providers of various sizes supporting different technologies. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of Decision Support Tools for Urban Water Supply Management in Uganda

    Author : Frank Kizito; Roger Thunvik; Patrick Ogao; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Decision support systems; Participatory decision-making; Geovisualization; Non-revenue water; Geostatistics; Action research; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : In this study, five real-life problem situations were used to explore the challenges of developing and implementing decision support tools for management of an urban water utility in Uganda. The study sought to explore how the degree of adoption of formal decision support tools in practice, generally perceived to be low, could be improved. READ MORE
