  1. 1. Finite Volume Methods on Quadrilateral and Moving Meshes

    Author : Fredrik Svensson; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; numerisk analys; system; kontroll; systems; control; numerical analysis; finite volume method; Datalogi; Computer science; moving mesh method; higher order reconstruction; hyperbolic conservation law;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the study of finite volume methods for hyperbolic conservation laws on non-uniform meshes. A high-order hyperbolic reconstruction method is presented. The method is constructed for quadrilateral meshes, since more realistic hyperbolic problems involve more complicated problem domains than the standard rectangular ones. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical Methods for Aerodynamic Shape Optimization

    Author : Olivier Amoignon; Martin Berggren; Per Lötstedt; Olivier Pironneau; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computational Fluid Dynamics; shape optimization; adjoint equations; edge-based finite-volume method; moving mesh adaptation; radial basis functions; inviscid compressible flow; transition control; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Gradient-based aerodynamic shape optimization, based on Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis of the flow, is a method that can automatically improve designs of aircraft components. The prospect is to reduce a cost function that reflects aerodynamic performances. READ MORE

  3. 3. Grey-box Identification of Distributed Parameter Systems

    Author : Yi Liu; Elling W. Jacobsen; Denis Dochain; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; grey-box modeling; grey-box identification; model reduction; PDE; chromatography; bifurcation; moving mesh methods; orthogonal collocation on moving finite elements; OCMFE; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis considers the problem of making dynamic models for industrial processes by combining physical modelling with experimental data. The focus is on distributed parameter systems, that is, systems for which the model structure involves partial differential equations (PDE). Distributed parameter systems are important in many applications, e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Finite element methods for surface problems

    Author : Mirza Cenanovic; Peter Hansbo; Kent Salomonsson; Paul Houston; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; trace finite element method; membrane; mean curvature; level-set method;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 5. 5. A Lagrangian-Eulerian simulation method for viscoelastic flows applied to adhesive joining

    Author : Simon Ingelsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; volume of fluid; computational fluid dynamics; immersed boundary methods; viscoelastic flow; adhesive joining;

    Abstract : Viscoelastic flows are important for many industrial processes, such as adhesive joining, polymer extrusion and additive manufacturing. Numerical simulations enable virtual evaluation and product realization, which can support the design phase and reduce the amount of costly physical testing. However, such applications are challenging to simulate. READ MORE
