7. Finite element methods for surface problems
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to further develop numerical methods for solving surface problems by utilizing tangential calculus and the trace finite element method. Direct computation on the surface is possible by the use of tangential calculus, in contrast to the classical approach of mapping 2D parametric surfaces to 3D surfaces by means of differential geometry operators. 8. Interaction between High-velocity Penetrators and Moving Armour Components
Abstract : This work was aimed at understanding mechanisms of importance for the design of weight-efficient armour against long-rod projectiles (LRP) and shaped charge (SC) warheads. The focus was on how to achieve effective mechanical disturbances on the threat before it hits the target. READ MORE

9. Partitioned methods for time-dependent thermal fluid-structure interaction
Abstract : The efficient simulation of thermal interaction between fluids and structures is crucial in the design of many industrial products, e.g. turbine blades or rocket nozzles. READ MORE

10. A Lagrangian-Eulerian simulation method for viscoelastic flows applied to adhesive joining
Abstract : Viscoelastic flows are important for many industrial processes, such as adhesive joining, polymer extrusion and additive manufacturing. Numerical simulations enable virtual evaluation and product realization, which can support the design phase and reduce the amount of costly physical testing. However, such applications are challenging to simulate. READ MORE
