  1. 1. Towards Optimal Quality of Experience via Scalable Video Coding

    Author : Pengpeng Ni; Damir Isovic; Mats Björkman; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quality-of-Experience; advanced video coding; MPEG-4; H264 AVC; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : To provide universal multimedia experience, multimedia streaming services need to transparently handle the variation and heterogeneity in operating environment. From the standpoint of streaming application, video adaptation techniques are intended to cope with the environmental variations by utilizing manipulations of the video content itself. READ MORE

  2. 2. Model Based Coding : Initialization, Parameter Extraction and Evaluation

    Author : Zhengrong Yao; Haibo Li; Ralf Schäfer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Signalbehandling; Model-based coding; Motion estimation; Vision based tracking; Initialization; Analysis-by-Synthesis; Texture mapping; Active tracking.; Signalbehandling; Signal processing; Signalbehandling; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : This thesis covers topics relevant to model-based coding. Model-based coding is a promising very low bit rate video coding technique. The idea behind this technique is to parameterize a talking head and to extract and transmit the parameters describing facial movements. At the receiver, the parameters are used to reconstruct the talking head. READ MORE

  3. 3. Model-based coding : extraction, coding, and evaluation of face model parameters

    Author : Jörgen Ahlberg; Andrew Senior; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with model-based coding of human faces for low bitrate communication. The basicidea of model-based coding is that the appearance and motion of a human face are analysed. By thisanalysis, compact parameters allowing realistic visualization of a synthetic face are extracted. READ MORE

  4. 4. Expressiveness in virtual talking faces

    Author : Gunilla Svanfeldt; Björn Granström; Francisco Lacerda; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Language technology; Språkteknologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, different aspects concerning how to make synthetic talking faces more expressive have been studied. How can we collect data for the studies, how is the lip articulation affected by expressive speech, can the recorded data be used interchangeably in different face models, can we use eye movements in the agent for communicative purposes? The work of this thesis includes studies of these questions and also an experiment using a talking head as a complement to a targeted audio device, in order to increase the intelligibility of the speech. 5. 5. Very Low Bitrate Video Communication : A Principal Component Analysis Approach

    Author : Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Luis Torres; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Video compression; Very low bitrate; Principal component analysis; Complexity; Semantically important areas; Wearable video; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : A large amount of the information in conversations come from non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and body gesture. These cues are lost when we don't communicate face-to-face. But face-to-face communication doesn't have to happen in person. With video communication we can at least deliver information about the facial mimic and some gestures. READ MORE
