1. Antibody Development - Examples from viral and proteomic studies
Abstract : This thesis, which is based on four original papers, covers different aspects of antibody development. The overall goal of my work has been to obtain an increased understanding of antibody repertoires as they develop in vivo and in vitro. READ MORE

2. Development of Methods for the Analysis of Polar Compounds in Environmental Matrices using LC/UV and LC/MS
Abstract : In recent years, the awareness of environmentally hazardous compounds with polar and ionizable properties has intensified. Pharmaceuticals, the pesticide tebuconazole as well as the artificial sweetener sucralose are examples of such new, emerging, contaminants. READ MORE

3. Nipple-sparing subcutaneous mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with implants in breast cancer
Abstract : Introduction: The surgical treatment of breast cancer has changed rapidly since Halsted´s operation was generally abandoned about 50 years ago. In the 1970s partial mastectomy (PM), followed by radiotherapy (RT), was proven to be oncologically safe for smaller cancer tumours that are not multifocal. READ MORE

4. Biomarker detection via lab-on-a-chip integrated immunoaffinity approach for fluorescence and mass spectrometry readout
Abstract : The blood/plasma protein biomarker profile represents the pathological and physiological changes relating to human diseases. However, the plasma proteome reflects a high degree of complexity that results in a challenge for most analytical methods in clinical diagnostics. READ MORE

5. Gas chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-tandem mass spectrometry methods for the determination of environmental contaminants
Abstract : The recent developments and improvements of instrumental methods for the analyses of the environmental contaminants, especially the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), have made it possible to detect and quantify these at very low concentrations in environmental and biotic matrices. The main objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the capability of the atmospheric pressure chemical ionization technique (APCI), using gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry for the determination of a wide range of environmental contaminants, including the POPs regulated by Stockholm Convention, such as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), but also the derivates of PBDEs and novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs).
