  2. 2. Cytokines and Neutrophils in the Urinary Tract Mucosa

    Author : Long Hang; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; neutrophils; chemokines; urinary tract infection; mucosa; epithelial cells; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : This study investigated the urinary tract cytokine reponse to infection and the role of chemokines for neutrophil recruitment to the urinary tract. The results suggest that 1) IL-8 and TGFb are consitutively produced by uroepithelial cells in vivo, and that uroepithelial cells are stimulated to produce IL-1b and IL-6 by uropathogenic Escherichia coli. 3. 3. Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment of Cytochromes P450 mRNA in Human : Studies in the Liver, Blood and Gastrointestinal Mucosa

    Author : Mari Thörn; Lars Lööf; Anders Rane; Ellen Vinge; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Drugs and other foreign compounds must often be metabolised before they can be excreted from the body. One enzyme system that is responsible for this is the cytochrome P450 gene family (CYP). READ MORE

  4. 4. Intestinal barrier function in health and disease

    Author : Pernilla Nejdfors; Biologiska institutionen; []

    Abstract : The intestinal epithelium has the dual function of absorbing nutrients and water as well as being a barrier to potentially harmful substances such as macromolecules and bacteria. In the present thesis the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa was studied in vitro in Ussing diffusion chambers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Inflammatory Reactions in Peritonitis and Malignant Obstructive Jaundice : Clinical and Experimental Studies with Special Emphasis on the Cellular Immune Response

    Abstract : Patients with peritonitis or malignant obstructive jaundice (HPB+) have an increased morbidity and mortality due to sepsis. An altered cell-mediated immunity in the intestinal mucosa might promote gut barrier failure, increased endotoxin and cytokine release and bacterial translocation (BT) in these conditions. READ MORE
