6. Spin Dynamics and Magnetic Multilayers
Abstract : Theoretical studies based on first-principles theory are presented for a number of different magnetic systems. The first part of the thesis concerns spin dynamics and the second part concerns properties of magnetic multilayers. The theoretical treatment is based on electronic structure calculations performed by means of density functional theory. READ MORE

7. A Theoretical Study of Magnetism in Nanostructured Materials
Abstract : A first-principles linear scaling real-space method for investigating non-collinear magnetic behaviour of nanostructured materials has been developed. With this method, the magnetic structures of small supported transition metal clusters have been examined. READ MORE

8. Chemical Vapour Deposition of Undoped and Oxygen Doped Copper (I) Nitride
Abstract : In science and technology there is a steadily increased demand of new materials and new materials production processes since they create new application areas as well as improved production technology and economy. This thesis includes development and studies of a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) process for growth of thin films of the metastable material copper nitride, Cu3N, which is a semiconductor and decomposes at around 300 oC. 9. Impedance of Soft Magnetic Multilayers : Application to GHz Thin Film Inductors
Abstract : A theoretical approach to calculating impedance of metallicmagnetic/conductor layered structures is developed. Thefrequency range considered extends to the ferromagneticresonance region of soft magnetic films (of the order of 1GHz). READ MORE

10. The microstructure and stability of CVD aluminia coatings
Abstract : This thesis has examined topics of relevance for increasing the understanding of alumina coatings produced by Chemical Vapour Deposition. The work consists of three parts: (i) The microstructure of Al2O3 coatings; (ii) the .kappa.-Al2O3 -> . READ MORE
