  1. 11. Histopathological and neuroimaging studies in partial epilepsy with emphasis on malformations of cortical development

    Author : Sofia Eriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epilepsy; epilepsy surgery; multiple pathology; malformations of cortical development; microdysgenesis; morphometry; diffusion tensor imaging;

    Abstract : The aim of the first part of the present study was to describe the whole Göteborg epilepsy surgery series between 1987 and 1995 with respect to surgical procedures, histopathological findings and clinical correlates. We found a high proportion of malformations of cortical development (MCD) and patients with MCD were studied in further detail in the following studies. READ MORE

  2. 12. Heparan Sulfate in the Amyloidosis and Inflammation of Alzheimer’s Disease

    Author : Paul O'Callaghan; Xiao Zhang; Lars Lannfelt; Jeremy Turnbull; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloidosis; amyloid-β; apolipoprotein E; astrocytes; glia; heparanase; heparan sulfate; heparan sulfate proteoglycans; microglia; neuroinflammation; Geriatrics; Geriatrik; Cellforskning; Cell Research; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, with extensive evidence implicating the misfolding, aggregation and deposition of the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide as central to the pathogenesis. Heparan sulfate (HS) is an interactive glycosaminoglycan, attached to core proteins as HS proteoglycans (HSPGs). READ MORE

  3. 13. Biomarker Discovery in Cutaneous Malignant Melanoma : A Study Based on Tissue Microarrays and Immunohistochemistry

    Author : Margrét Agnarsdóttir; Fredrik Ponten; Peter Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibody-based proteomics; automated analysis; biomarker; immunohistochemistry; malignant melanoma; survival; tissue microarray; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; Pathology; Patologi; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : The incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma has increased dramatically in Caucasians the last few decades, an increase that is partly explained by altered sun exposure habits. For the individual patient, with a localized disease, the tumor thickness of the excised lesion is the most important prognostic factor. READ MORE

  4. 14. Detection of immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement with PCR for MRD analysis in lymphoproliferative disorders

    Author : Ulf Thunberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Minimal residual disease; Immunoglobulin gene rearrangement; PCR; Leukemia; Lymphoma; Myeloma; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene rearrangement occurs during early B-lymphocyte differentiation, assembling the different IGH gene segments to a functional gene, which can serve as a marker for study of lineage association and detection of Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in clonal diseases deriving from B-lymphocytes or their early differentiation stages. Use of a molecular marker for the leukemic cells could help improve treatment by monitoring therapeutic efficacy, predicting relapse, and identifying very small amounts of tumour cells contaminating autografts after purging or enrichment of stem cells. 5. 15. Molecular Analysis of Normal Human Skin and Basal Cell Carcinoma Using Microdissection Based Methods

    Author : Anna Asplund; Fredrik Pontén; Uffe Birk Jenssen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; skin; basal cell carcinoma; microdissection; X-chromosome inactivation; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to gain further insight into the biology of normal human skin and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). Morphology in combination with microdissection was used as primary tool for sampling. READ MORE
