  1. 1. Embodied cognition and emotion in multisensory media

    Author : Ana Tajadura; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; media; emotion; psychoacoustics; auditory-induced emotions; embodied emotion; presence.; self-representation; embodiment; multisensory perception;

    Abstract : Emotions underlie most events in our everyday life perception. They prepare ourselves for an optimum response to these events, either showing attraction or rejection to them. Likewise, media has the power to evoke in us similar affective processes as the ones created by real situations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sound for Multisensory Motion Simulators

    Author : Alexander Väljamäe; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatial audio; cognitive acoustics; presence; multisensory optimization; virtual reality; auditory scene synthesis; illusory self-motion; vection ;

    Abstract : Interaction in a virtual reality environment often implies situations of illusory self-motion, like, for example, in flight or driving scenarios. Striving for pictorial realism, currently available motion simulators often exhibit relatively poor sound design. READ MORE

  3. 3. Embodied psychoacoustics: Spatial and multisensory determinants of auditory-induced emotion

    Author : Ana Tajadura; [2008]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ecological psychoacoustics; multisensory perception; emoacoustics; vibrotactile; auditory-induced emotion; embodiment; peripersonal space; self-representation;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis focuses on auditory perception, bringing together traditional psychoacoustics, emotion, embodiment and multisensory research. In particular, the current research explored how sound, and the interpretation the listener makes of it, induces emotions in people. READ MORE

  4. 4. Where imagination meets sensation : mental imagery, perception and multisensory Integration

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Neuroscience

    Author : Christopher C. Berger; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : What happens if we imagine seeing something while we are listening to something? Will it change what we hear? What happens if we imagine hearing something while we are looking at something? Will it change what we see? In everyday perception, our brains integrate the information provided to us by our different senses in order to form a coherent perception of the world around us in a process referred to as multisensory integration. However, sometimes the information provided to our senses arises from within, as is the case when we imagine a sensory stimulus; for example, when you picture in your mind the face of a loved one, or imagine how they sound when they say your name. 5. 5. Investigating the multisensory representation of the hand and the space around it using fMRI

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Neuroscience

    Author : Giovanni Gentile; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The human brain incessantly receives a staggering amount of information from all our senses . The dynamic integration of relevant multisensory signals is an evolutionarily optimal strategy to assist adaptive behavior. Arguably , one physical object stands out as the unique recipient of internal and external multisensory signals alike : the body. READ MORE
