  1. 11. Dissolving pulp : Multivariate Characterisation and Analysis of Reactivity and Spectroscopic Properties

    Author : Kristina Elg Christoffersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Dissolving pulp; reactivity; solid state 13C NMR spectroscopy; NIR spectroscopy; multivariate analysis; cellulose; viscose; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Various chemical properties can be used to characterise dissolving pulp. The quality of the pulp must be carefully controlled to ensure that it meets the requirements for its intended use and the further processes to be applied. READ MORE

  2. 12. Multivariate non-invasive measurements of skin disorders

    Author : Josefina Nyström; Britta Lindholm-Sethson; Paul SLU Geladi; Lars Noergaard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multivariate Data Analysis; Non-invasive techniques; Clinical studies; Principal Component Analysis; Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis; Wilcoxon Signed Rank Sum Test; Near-InfraRed spectroscopy; Frequency Bio Impedance Analysis of whole body; Laser Doppler Imaging; Digital Colour Photography; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The present thesis proposes new methods for obtaining objective and accurate diagnoses in modern healthcare. Non-invasive techniques have been used to examine or diagnose three different medical conditions, namely neuropathy among diabetics, radiotherapy induced erythema (skin redness) among breast cancer patients and diagnoses of cutaneous malignant melanoma. 3. 13. Multivariate spectroscopic methods for the analysis of solutions

    Author : Kent Wiberg; Sven Jacobsson; Lars Nørgaard; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemometrics; UV-Vis spectroscopy; Multivariate calibration; Lidocaine; Identity; Content; PLS; SIMCA; Non-column; Diode array UV spectroscopy; DAD; Control sample; High Capacity Analysis HCA ; Fluorescence spectroscopy; Albumin; Immunoglobulin G; HPLC-DAD; Prilocaine; Peak purity determination; PCA; PARAFAC; Partial separation; Curve resolution; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis some multivariate spectroscopic methods for the analysis of solutions are proposed. Spectroscopy and multivariate data analysis form a powerful combination for obtaining both quantitative and qualitative information and it is shown how spectroscopic techniques in combination with chemometric data evaluation can be used to obtain rapid, simple and efficient analytical methods. 4. 14. Spectroscopic data and multivariate analysis : tools to study genetic perturbations in poplar trees

    Author : Susanne Wiklund; Ulf Edlund; Olav Kvalheim; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR spectroscopy; Metabolomics; Degree of methylation; S-plot; SUS-plot; Metabonomics; Poplar; MLR; PLS; OPLS; PCA; Pectin; Wood; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : In our society in the 21st century one of the greatest challenges is to provide raw materials to the industry in a sustainable way. This requires increased use of renewable raw materials such as wood. Wood is widely used in pulp, paper and textile industries and ongoing research efforts aim to extend the use of wood in e.g. READ MORE

  5. 15. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    Author : Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting).
