  1. 1. Biomolecular characterization of mumps virus genotypes with varying neurovirulence

    Author : Tesfaldet Tecle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mumps virus is an RNA virus, which belongs to the Rubula virus genus of the family Paramyxoviridae. Mumps is a common childhood infection. Classically, mumps infection presents as parotitis although it is frequently asymptomatic in young children. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epidemiological analysis of viral infections as risk factors for multiple sclerosis

    Author : Cecilia Ahlgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Viral childhood diseases have been implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS). Swedish mass vaccination programmes resulted in radical changes in the panorama of the targeted infections. Vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella were implemented in the early 1970s. READ MORE

  3. 3. The effect of virus on the cytotoxic effector function of normal human lymphocytes

    Author : Bengt Härfast; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cytotoxic effect of human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from healthy donors against mumps virus infected cells was studied by 5lCR-release assay. With several different cell fractionation techniques the effector cells were demonstrated to be undistinguishable from the lymphocytes responsible for antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC, K-cells) and from those responsible for natural cytotoxicity (NK cells). 4. 4. Epidemiologic and genetic studies of paramyxoviruses

    Author : Farideh Rafiefard; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Paramyxoviruses are viruses of the paramyxoviridae family of the mononegavirales order; they are negative-sense single-stranded RNA viruses responsible for a number of diseases in humans and animals. Mumps virus belongs to the Rubula virus genus. Mumps is a common childhood infection. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of virus infection and interferon-y on the development of the neuromuscular junction in vitro

    Author : Sofija Kelic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Normal development of the nervous system depends upon complex interactions between cells and their local environment. These interactions may be disturbed by toxic and infectious agents. It is well known that such agents can cause malformations, due to interference with neural tube formation or neuronal proliferation and migration. READ MORE
