  1. 1. Exercise-induced muscle soreness a qualitative and quantitative study of human muscle morphology and function

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Jan Fridén; Umeå universitet.; [1983]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; exercise; exertion; eccentric contractions; muscles; muscle strength; muscle soreness; fibre types; myofibrils; muscle proteins; histocy to chemistry; ultrastructure; stereology;

    Abstract : Exercise-induced muscle soreness is characterized by stiffness, tenderness and pain during active movements and weakness of the affected musculature the days after unusually or particularly heavy work. The most pronounced subjective symptoms do not arise immediately but rather between a couple of hours to some days after the exercise (a delayed-onset of muscle soreness), the intensity of pain is greatest about 48 hours after the work. 2. 2. Muscle Thixotropy Implications for Human Motor Control

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Hans Axelson; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Motor control; Skeletal muscle; Thixotropy; History-dependent; EMG; Voluntary contractions; Neurovetenskap; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Internal medicine Neurology; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Invärtesmedicin Neurologi;

    Abstract : Human skeletal muscles possess thixotropic, i.e. history-dependent mechanical properties. This means that the degree of passive muscle stiffness and resting tension is dependent on the immediately preceding history of contractions and length changes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vibration-induced muscle injury in the hand - experimental and clinical studies

    University dissertation from Lars E Necking, Department of Hand Surgery, Malmö University Hospital, SE-205 02 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Lars Necking; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; Surgery; muscle morphometry; intrinsic hand muscle; muscle strength; muscle injury; hand weakness; Vibration exposure; hand-arm vibration syndrome; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Störningar i händernas finmotorik, kraft och känsel är vanliga symtom efter långvarigt bruk av handhållna vibrerande verktyg. I gynnsamma och lindriga fall kan dessa besvär gå tillbaka efter upphörande av expositionen för vibrationer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Myonuclear Organization and Regulation of Muscle Contraction in Single Muscle Fibres Effects of Ageing, Gender, Species, Endocrine Factors and Muscle Size

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Rizwan Qaisar; Uppsala universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; single muscle cells; muscle nuclei; specific force; species; hypertrophy; mammals; ageing; gender; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The skeletal muscle fibre is a syncitium where each myonucleus regulates the gene products in a finite volume of cytoplasm i.e., the myonuclear domain (MND). READ MORE

  5. 5. Cross transfer effects after unilateral muscle overuse an experimental animal study about alterations in the morphology and the tachykinin system of muscles

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Yafeng Song; Umeå universitet.; [2013]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Triceps surae; overuse; contralateral; muscle; muscle fiber; MyHC; capillary; tachykinin; substance P; NK-1R; inflammation; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Unilateral exercise can produce certain contralateral strength effects. Deleterious events can be cross-transferred as well, as illustrated by a strict symmetry in some chronic inflammatory diseases. READ MORE
