  1. 1. Leisure and muscular performance in health and disease a study of 40-64-year-old northern Swedes

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Björn Gerdle; Umeå universitet.; [1985]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Leisure; health; skeletal muscle; isokinetics; electromyography; plantar flexion; muscular fatigue;

    Abstract : Categories and frequencies of leisureactivities employed by 156 randomly selected males and females aged 40-44, 50-54, 60-64 were investigated by structured interviews and were related to leisuresatisfaction, to experienced health and socio-economic status. In equal numbers (15) of males and females from each group and in 24 males (60 +_6 years) with intermittent claudication (Cl) isokinetic plantar flexion performance was investigated with registrations of peak torque (PT), contractional work (CW), active range-of-motion (RoM) and integrated electromyograms from all threee triceps surae heads. 2. 2. Kinetic chain weight training, strength assessment, and functional performance testing: with reference to sports and rehabilitation

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Jesper Augustsson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; open kinetic chain; closed kinetic chain; weight training; strength assessment; functional tests; anterior cruciate ligament; reconstruction; fatigue;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance in healthy individuals and patients after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Data are presented that concerns closed and open kinetic chain exercise, adaptive response to weight training, the methodology of muscle strength assessment, and the development of a functional testing protocol performed under conditions of fatigue. 3. 3. On the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. A prospective, randomised study of the results after surgical and non-surgical treatment

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Michael Möller; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; rupture; score; prospective; randomised controlled trial; isokinetic; muscular endurance; magnetic resonance imaging; ultrasonography;

    Abstract : Only two prospective, randomised studies have been published on the outcome after treatment for Achilles tendon rupture. The controversy regarding the optimal treatment continues. In the present study, 112 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were randomised and all of them were followed up for two years. READ MORE

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish För att vi människor ska kunna upprätthålla balansen och utföra rörelser behöver vi ett komplext styrsystem som kontinuerligt kontrollerar och samordnar kroppens rörelser. Detta styrsystem, som kallas postural kontroll, får sin information från synen, balanssinnet (vestibularisorganen), led-muskelsinnet (proprioception) och receptorer i huden (mekanoreceptorer). 5. 5. Acute and early chronic responses to resistance exercise using flywheel or weights

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology

    Author : Lena Norrbrand; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2008]

    Abstract : Weight training typically offers constant external load during coupled shortening (concentric) and lengthening (eccentric) muscle actions in sets of consecutive repetitions until failure. However, skeletal muscle inherently has the capability to produce greater force in the eccentric compared with the concentric action, which allows for greater loading during the eccentric action, i.
