  1. 11. Occupational health risks in dentistry - musculoskeletal disorders and neuropathy in relation to exposure to physical workload, vibrations and mercury

    Author : Ingrid Åkesson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prospective follow-up study .; cross-sectional; inclinometer; electrogoniometer; EMG; physical exposure; tactilometry; physical examination; diagnoses; neck upper limb; sensorineural; Key words: Dentistry; musculoskeletal; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to focus on the occupational health risks in dentistry with emphasis on musculoskeletal disorders in the neck and upper limbs and neuropathy in the hands, in relation to exposure to physical workload, vibration and mercury. An increased high frequency of long-lasting and wide-spread musculoskeletal symptoms in the neck and shoulder regions (58-75% during the past 12 months) was found in dentists and dental hygienists compared to different referent groups; furthermore, wrist/hand (46-59%) and hip (19-27%) disorders as well in female dentists and dental hygienists. 2. 12. Asymmetric lateral loading of the human trunk

    Author : Qiang-Min Huang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Eccentric; concentric; isokinetic; electromyography; co-activation; trunk; spinal biomechanics; contraction patterns; lateral bending; lifting and lowering; balance; kinematics; postural control; IAP; support translation.;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to characterize the biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the human trunk in response to asymmetric lateral loading. The pulling force and strength capacities as well as muscle activation patterns, trunk kinematics and postural balance in relation to lateral trunk flexion and loading were given special consideration. 3. 13. Muscle Thixotropy : Implications for Human Motor Control

    Author : Hans Axelson; Karl-Erik Hagbarth; Mikael Elam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Motor control; Skeletal muscle; Thixotropy; History-dependent; EMG; Voluntary contractions; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : Human skeletal muscles possess thixotropic, i.e. history-dependent mechanical properties. This means that the degree of passive muscle stiffness and resting tension is dependent on the immediately preceding history of contractions and length changes. READ MORE

  4. 14. Knee and ankle kinesiology and joint instability

    Author : Håkan Gauffin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This study, comprising 7 separate papers, is concerned with the additional information supplied by a kinesiological approach for evaluation of patients with instability due to old ligamenta us injury to the knee or ankle joint. This approach required development of new methods for kinesiological analysis. READ MORE

  5. 15. Working technique during computer work Associations with biomechanical and psychological strain, neck and upper extremity musculoskeletal symptoms

    Author : Agneta Lindegård Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Working technique; Computer users; Perceived exertion; Observation assessments;

    Abstract : About 35 % of the working population in Sweden report that computer use accounts for 50% or more of their total working hours. Among this population approximately 40% of the women and 25% of the men experienced symptoms in the neck and/or upper extremities at least once a week during the preceding 3 month. READ MORE
