  1. 1. Quantitative analysis of disease associated mutations and sequence variants

    Author : Charlotta Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Kvantifiering; PCR-metoder; SNP; mutation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : A solid-phase sequencing technique was applied to quantify the mitochondrial A3243G mutation in three families with maternally inherited diabetes and deafness. A correlation between the level of heteroplasmy and age at onset was found. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cold Acclimation in oats and other plants: Dissecting low temperature responses using a comparative genomic approach

    Author : Marcus Bräutigam; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cold acclimation; oat; EST; microarray; transcriptome; chilling; freezing; rice; Arabidopsis; TILLING; mutation;

    Abstract : Cold acclimation protects plants from temperate regions of the world from the deleterious effects of low and freezing temperatures. This is through a series of transcriptional, regulatory and metabolic changes that enable continued growth and survival. READ MORE

  3. 3. Rates and Patterns of Mutation in Microsatellite DNA

    Author : Jesper Brohede; Christian Schlötterer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; evolutionär genetik; evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : Sequence comparisons of orthologous microsatellite loci in cattle and sheep revealed that the substitution rate in microsatellite flanking sequences does not differ from the rate in presumably neutrally evolving intron sequences. This suggests that microsatellites are generally located in regions that are not subjected to selection. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular genetics and mechanisms of pigmentation and melanoma

    Author : Elisabeth Sundström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Ever since man domesticated the first wild animals several thousand years ago, many species have been living in close relationship with humans, being objects for our requests and wishes about any kind of phenotypic traits. As a result, we have by selective breeding created a fascinating spectrum of phenotypes within most species we have domesticated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Progesterone profiles, oestrus expression and pregnancy in dairy cows

    Author : Sofia Nyman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The cow’s ability to reproduce is essential for milk production. Traditionally genetic evaluations for fertility have been based on measures on insemination- and calving dates, which in general are highly influenced by on-farm decisions. Unfortunately, the low heritability of classical fertility traits makes the genetic improvement slow. READ MORE
