1. Phylogenetic and ecological studies in lichenology : including studies of both mycobiont and photobiont
Abstract : In this thesis different aspects in lichens are investigated, namely, the phylogeny of mycobiont and photobiont, and ecology in the form of species richness of certain habitats of the Uppland province, Sweden.Analyses of ITS sequences of the lichenized fungi genus Roccella (Roccellaceae) provide an intrageneric topology of the genus with emphasis on the European, Mediterranean and Macaronesian species. 2. The puzzle of lichen symbiosis : Pieces from Thamnolia
Abstract : Symbiosis brought important evolutionary novelties to life on Earth. Lichens, the symbiotic entities formed by fungi, photosynthetic organisms and bacteria, represent an example of a successful adaptation in surviving hostile environments. Yet many aspects of the lichen symbiosis remain unexplored. READ MORE

3. The formation of ectomycorrhiza in conifers : structural and physiological studies with special reference to the mycobiont, Philoderma croceum Erikss. & Hjortst

4. Hidden complexity of lichen symbiosis : insights into functionality, reproduction and composition
Abstract : Lichens are tremendously diverse physical outcomes of symbiotic relationships involving fungi, algae and bacteria. This thesis aims to give insight into the functionality, composition and reproduction of lichens from the fungal perspective. READ MORE

5. Succession of wood-inhabiting fungal communities : diversity and species interactions during the decomposition of Norway spruce
Abstract : Dead wood constitutes an important substrate for biodiversity in boreal forests. As the wood decays, fungal communities develop and species associations are formed. Species interactions are thought to affect community development, but the mycelial dynamics within fungal communities are poorly understood. READ MORE
