  1. 1. Experimental modulation and suppression of anti-allograft immune response

    Author : Öyvind Östraat; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; linomide; leflunomide; cyclophosphamide; mycophenolate mofetil; azathioprine; thalidomide; cyclosporin A; ciprofloxacin; flow cytometry; production; IL-2; Rat cardiac transplantation; allograft; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : Abstract The objective of this investigation was to characterise the immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive effects of single drug treatment and the potential synergistic or additive effects of combined treatment with the focus on ciprofloxacin, thalidomide, mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide or leflunomide added to cyclosporin A (CyA). A rat cardiac transplant model was used to study graft survival and the influence on lymphocytes was evaluated by in vitro tests. READ MORE

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that mainly affects women. The effect of the immune modulating drug mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) on experimental SLE was investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Discordant Neural Xenografting: Analysis and Modulation of Immune Responses

    Author : Lena Cecilia Larsson; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; immunosuppression; immunology; xenograft; pig; Parkinson s disease; intracerebral transplantation;

    Abstract : Transplantation of embryonic human neural tissue can restore function in patients with Parkinson’s disease, but there is a severe shortage of donor tissue which limits the applicability of the technique. Embryonic neural tissue from other species, xenogeneic tissue, would provide a readily accessible donor tissue with the potential to help patients if the immunological reactions in the host could be prevented. 4. 4. Inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal neoplasia and treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid in primary sclerosing cholangitis

    Author : Lina Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : inflammatory bowel disease;

    Abstract : Background: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease closely associated with inflammatory bowel disease. PSC is progressive and ultimately leads to death or need for liver transplantation. Patients are also at high risk of developing colorectal neoplasia (CRN). READ MORE

  5. 5. AB0-incompatible kidney transplantation using antigen-specific immunoadsorption and rituximab

    Author : Helena Genberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : 5As the demand for kidney transplantation is constantly growing methods to expand the donor pool have become increasingly important. AB0-incompatibility has hitherto been regarded as an absolute contraindication to living donor donation. READ MORE
