11. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy
Abstract : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 12. Strategies to explore the membrane proteome of a cell
Abstract : The cell envelope plays key roles in numerous processes such as maintaining cellular integrity, communication with other cells, signal transduction, maintenance of cellular homeostasis, and regulation of the traffic of molecules between the cell and the extracellular milieu. Essential membrane components in many of these processes are proteins. READ MORE

13. Multiple Sclerosis: Studies of the Interferon system and search for infectious agents
Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system, characterized by focal inflammatory lesions with demyelination and axonal loss. It is believed that MS is an immune-mediated disorder with both genetic and environmental contributions to the pathogenesis. READ MORE

14. Immunogenetics and treatment of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis
Abstract : Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelities (EAE) is a model of multiple sclerosis (MS). This experimental central nervous system (CNS) disease can be induced in rats by immunization with components of the CNS myelin sheath. READ MORE

15. Suppressive DNA vaccination in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of a novel method to suppress an organ-specific autoimmune disease, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), by vaccination with DNA encoding autoantigenic peptides. DNA vaccination can produce long-term immunity and generate antigen-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cells. READ MORE
