1. Optimisation of diagnostic PCR a study of PCR inhibitors in blood and sample pretreatment
Abstract : PCR is widely employed as a rapid, sensitive and specific molecular diagnostic technique in clinical diagnosis, environmental investigations and for monitoring biotechnical processes. However, the full potential of diagnostic PCR is limited, in part, by the presence of PCR-inhibitory substances in biological samples. READ MORE

2. Genomic Diversity and Evolution of Parasitism in Nematode-trapping Fungi
Abstract : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil-living organisms that have the ability to form infection structures, traps to capture nematodes. Many nematode species are parasites on plants and animals, which have resulted in an interest to use the nematode-trapping fungi as biological control agents. READ MORE

3. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection
Abstract : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. READ MORE

4. Redox balancing in recombinant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : In metabolically engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing Pichia stipitis XYL1 and XYL2 genes, encoding xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), respectively, xylitol is excreted as the major product during anaerobic xylose fermentation and only low yields of ethanol are produced. This has been interpreted as a result of the dual cofactor dependence of XR and the exclusive use of NAD+ by XDH. READ MORE

5. Distribution and Effects of NO and CO in the Human Upper Respiratory Tract
Abstract : Mucosal inflammation and airway hyperreactivity are regulated by hundreds of different mediators. The recent discovery of gaseous mediators, produced and active within the airways, opens new possibilities for identification of therapeutic targets and ways to monitor airway inflammation.
