6. Development of an Automatic Reduction Tool for Chemical Mechanisms and an Optimized Sparse Matrix Solver for Systems of Differential and Algebraic Equations
Abstract : Abstract An N-Heptane mechanism and a Methane/Propane mechanism have been reduced by an Automatic Reduction Tool (ART) and simulated with two different solver combinations, which solve the set of ordinary differential equations governing the time evolution of the species simultaneously with solving algebraic equations for species that can be considered to be in quasi steady state. The most successful of the two solver combinations is an optimized combination of Newton solvers. READ MORE

7. Combustion characteristics of some alternative fuels in ICE: : a detailed numerical study
Abstract : Two major fuels commonly used in compression ignition (CI) and spark ignition (SI) enginesare diesel and gasoline. The reserve of diesel and gasoline is limited, however the combustion ofthese fuels giving rise to air pollution. READ MORE

8. Complex Chemistry Modeling of Diesel Spray Combustion
Abstract : The thesis illustrates the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to turbulent reactive two-phase flows in piston engines. The focus of the thesis lies on numerical simulations of spray combustion phenomena with an emphasis on the modeling of turbulence/chemistry interaction effects using a detailed chemistry approach. 9. An Experimental Study of a Spark-assisted
Abstract : Future requirements for reductions in fuel consumption and emissions from ground vehicles might be met by using the HCCI combustion concept, in which a more or less homogenous air fuel mixture is compressed to auto-ignition. This consumes less fuel than normal SI combustion and its ability to burn lean mixtures at low temperatures has a positive impact on exhaust emissions. READ MORE

10. New tools for sample preparation and instrumental analysis of dioxins in environmental samples
Abstract : Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs), two groups of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons, are of high concern due to their global distribution and extreme toxicity. Since they occur at very low levels, their analysis is complex, challenging and hence there is a need for efficient, reliable and rapid alternative analytical methods. READ MORE
