  1. 1. Photochemical and Photoelectric Applications of II-VI Semiconductor Nanomaterials

    Author : Abhilash Sugunan; Mamoun Muhammed; Lars Kloo; KTH; []
    Keywords : ZnO; Nanowire arrays; Photocatalysis; Nanofibers; CdTe; Nanotetrapods; Ostwalds ripening; Photoconduction; Nano-gap electrodes;

    Abstract : In this work we investigated fabrication of semiconductor nanomaterials and evaluated their potential for photo-chemical and photovoltaic applications. We investigated two different II-VI semiconductor nanomaterial systems; (i) ZnO oriented nanowire arrays non-epitaxially grown from a substrate; and (ii) colloidal CdTe nanotetrapods synthesized by solution-based thermal decomposition of organo-metallic precursors. 2. 2. First principles simulations of electron transport at the molecule-solid interface

    Author : Hao Ren; Yi Luo; Nicolás Lorente; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; first principles; electron transport; solid surface; inelastic electron tunneling; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis I concentrate on the description of electron transport properties of microscopic objects, including molecular junctions and nano junctions, in particular, inelastic electron tunneling in surface-adsorbate systems are examined with more contemplations. Boosted by the rapid advance in experimental techniques at the microscopic scale, various electric experiments and measurements sprung up in the last decade. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ionic Conducting Composite as Electrolyte forLow Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

    Author : Xiaodi Wang; Mamoun Muhammed; Zhu Bin; Per H Alvfors; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are considered as one of the most promising powergeneration technologies due to their high energy conversion efficiency, fuel flexibilityand reduced pollution. The current SOFCs with yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)electrolyte require high operation temperature (800-1000 °C), which not only hinderstheir broad commercialization due to associated high cost and technologicalcomplications. 4. 4. Investigation of New Concepts and Solutions for Silicon Nanophotonics

    Author : Zhechao Wang; Lech Wosinski; Kresten Yvind; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Planar integrated circuit; silicon photonics; slot waveguide; finite-difference time-domain; waveguide grating coupler; ring resonator; polarization diversity scheme; polarization beam splitter; polarization rotator; hybrid silicon laser; epitaxial lateral overgrowth; chemical-mechanical polishing.; Optics; Optik;

    Abstract : Nowadays, silicon photonics is a widely studied research topic. Its high-index-contrast and compatibility with the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology make it a promising platform for low cost high density integration. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling Biophysical Mechanisms underlying Cellular Homeostasis

    Author : Padideh Kamali-Zare; Hjalmar Brismar; Charles Nicholson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Cellular homeostasis is the effort of all living cells to maintain their intracellular content when facing physiological change(s) in the extracellular environment. To date, cellular homeostasis is known to be regulated mainly by time-consuming active mechanisms and via multiple signaling pathways within the cells. READ MORE
