  1. 1. Nano-porous Alumina, a Potential Bone Implant Coating

    Author : Marjam Karlsson; Karin Caldwell; Mats Boman; Matteo Santin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Nano-porous aluminium oxide; Biomaterial; Hard tissue implant; Surface topography; Osteoblast; Biocompatibility; Neutrophil; Inflammation; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes a method of growing a highly adherent nano-porous alumina coating on titanium implant materials, a design which might be useful in hard tissue replacement. Alumina layers were formed by anodisation of aluminium, which had been deposited on titanium and titanium alloys by electron beam evaporation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Assessment of novel applications for nano-porous thermal insulation in district heating pipes and building walls

    Author : Axel Berge; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adaptive façade; nano-porous insulation; thermal insulation; district heating pipes; hybrid insulation;

    Abstract : In nano-porous thermal insulation there is a strong relation between the pressure and the thermal conductivity, even at pressures close to atmospheric pressure. This thesis presents research on applications of nano-porous insulation in hybrid insulation district heating pipes and in building walls. READ MORE

  4. 4. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications

    Author : Anna Norlin; Jinshan Pan; Dieter Scharnweber; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pacemaker electrode; interfacial property; biomaterial; electrostimulation charge transfer mechanism; electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; transient processes; plasma electrolysis anodisation; porous niobium oxide; ruthenium oxide; nano-porous carbon; iridium oxide; titanium nitride; platinum; surface roughness; porous electrode; pacing impedance; electrode polarisation; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ordered arrays of low-dimensional Au and Pd : synthesis and in situ observations

    Author : Giuseppe Abbondanza; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanowires NWs ; nanorods; nanoparticles; Au; Pd; Al; Al2O3; anodization; nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide; powder diffraction; x-ray diffraction; x-ray scattering; SAXS; WAXS; grazing-incidence; two-dimensional surface optical reflectance;

    Abstract : Electrodeposition of metals in templates of nano-porous anodic aluminum oxide (NP-AAO) is a versatile way of fabricating ordered arrays of metal nanowires. Thanks to the self-arranged long-range hexagonal order of the pores, electrodeposition in NP-AAO is an easily scalable bottom-up synthesis route and an attractive alternative to traditional top-down fabrication methods such as electron beam lithography.
