  2. 12. Single DNA Molecule Analysis – New Tools for Medical Diagnosis

    Author : My Nyblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical DNA mapping; DNA damage; DNA; single-molecule analysis; fluorescence microscopy; antibiotic resistance; nanofluidics; genetics;

    Abstract : The DNA molecule, the blueprint of life, contains an enormous amount of information. The information is coded by the combination of four bases; adenine, cytosine, guanine, and thymine, that, together with the sugar-phosphate backbones, make up the DNA double helix. READ MORE

  3. 13. New Nanopores for Combined Plasmonic and Electrical Sensing

    Author : Kunli Xiong; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Colloidal lithography; Plasmonic; Electrical technology; Thermal Energy.; Surface; Biosensor;

    Abstract : In this thesis, several kinds of artificial plasmonic biosensors are introduced. They havedifferent nanostructures which are nanoholes, nanowells and nanopores. The fabricationtechnologies are introduced. All these nanostructures are fabricated based on colloidallithography technology and following by several special steps. READ MORE

  4. 14. Reaction and Diffusion Phenomena in Biomimetic Nanoscale Reactors and Networks

    Author : Kristin Sott; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial cell; restricted geometries.; enzymatic reactions; micromanipulation; biomimetic; nanotubes; diffusion; Vesicles; networks; liposomes;

    Abstract : Methods for construction of geometrically complex, fully connected surface-immobilized microscopic networks of phospholipid bilayer vesicles (1-50 µm in diameter) interconnected by lipid nanotubes (100-300 nm in diameter), have been developed. The networks have controlled connectivity and are well-defined with regard to the container size, content, angle between nanotube extensions, and nanotube length. READ MORE

  5. 15. Amyloid Proteins in Neurodegenerative Disease – Role of Extrinsic Modifiers

    Author : Nima Sasanian; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Self-assembly of disease-associated proteins into fibrillar homopolymers, so-called “amyloid fibrils” is a pathological hallmark of several debilitating human disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). AD and PD are associated with the formation of amyloid fibrils from the proteins amyloid-β (Aβ) and α-syn (α-syn), in the extracellular and intracellular space, respectively. READ MORE
