  1. 6. Design and characterization of nanoparticles and their assemblies : Transmission electron microscopy investigations from atomic to mesoscopic length scales

    Author : Arnaud Mayence; Lennart Bergström; Liberato Manna; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; electron microscopy; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a powerful and versatile tool for investigating nanomaterials. In this thesis, various transmission electron microscopy techniques are used to study the chemical and structural features of different types of inorganic nanoparticles of well-defined morphologies as well as their assemblies. 2. 7. Aerosol Generated Core-shell Nanoparticles : Synthesis and Characterization

    Author : Markus Snellman; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aerosol technology; core-shell particles; nanoparticles; Janus particles;

    Abstract : Aerosol technology is a promising platform to synthesize and study core-shellnanoparticles - a multi-elemental nanoparticle system where the core of one material is covered by a shell of another material. In this thesis, two distinctly separate strategies have been explored to synthesize core-shell nanoparticles by aerosol methods: physical vapor deposition (PVD) by evaporation, and surface segregation via thermal treatment. 3. 8. Amorphous magnesium carbonate nanomaterials : Synthesis, characterization and applications

    Author : Jiaojiao Yang; Ken Welch; Mika Lindén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high surface-to-volume ratio; nanoparticles; mesoporous; magnesium carbonate; amorphous drugs; supersaturated concentration; general adhesives; UV-shielding;

    Abstract : High surface-to-volume ratio materials, including nanoparticles and mesoporous materials, have a number of applications due to their large surface area and special structures. Traditional approaches for synthesizing high surface-to-volume ratio nanomaterials are often complicated, expensive or environmentally unfriendly. READ MORE

  5. 10. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization

    Author : Mei Fang; K.Venkat Rao; Lyubov Belova; Rajeev Ahuja; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; magnetic photonic crystals; photonic band gaps; Fe3O4 nanoparticles; silica; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers.
