1. Nanoplasmonics for solar cells
Abstract : The main source of our energy system, the fossil fuels, will eventually be depleted and also pose environmental and climate hazards. There is thus a need for alternative, renewable energy sources. Solar (photovoltaic) cells will play an important role as one of them. READ MORE

2. From single-molecule sensing to extracellular vesicles in glioma cells under stress
Abstract : This thesis describes the work I conducted in two different areas, namely biomolecular sensing and quantitative cell biology. The work in the former area was focused on the optimization of plasmonic metamaterials for sensing applications, and in the latter on the characterization of extracellular vesicles released by glioblastoma cells under stress conditions. 3. Crack-junctions : Bridging the gap between nano electronics and giga manufacturing
Abstract : Obtaining both nanometer precision of patterning and parallel fabrication on wafer-scale is currently not possible in conventional fabrication schemes. Just as we are looking beyond semiconductor technologies for next-generation electronics and photonics, our efforts turn to new ways of producing electronic and photonic interfaces with the nanoscale. 4. Pd-nanoalloys for hydrogen sensing: Multiscale modeling of thermodynamic and optical properties
Abstract : Hydrogen sensing based on Pd nanoalloys has shown great promise in the past decades and could potentially be part of a solution that enables a safe future hydrogen economy. There are, however, remaining challenges related to, e.g., long-term stability and a need for further optimization of these systems. READ MORE

5. Hot-carrier generation and strong coupling in metal nanoparticles
Abstract : Metal nanoparticles are an emerging platform for energy applications such as photovoltaics, solar-to-fuel conversion and photocatalysis. Nanoparticles confine the oscillating electromagnetic field of visible light to very small volumes, which allows for efficient absorption and scattering of light in the solar spectral range. READ MORE
