  1. 21. Instability in Settling Fibres : A Numerical Study

    Author : Feng Zhang; Anders A. Dahlkild; Fredrik Lundell; Mark Martinez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bre suspensions; sedimentation; instability; mixture model; point-particle mode;

    Abstract : Sedimenting suspensions exist in a varity of natural phenomena and industrial applications. It is already observed in experiments that the dilute fibre suspensions experience a concentration instability under gravity at low Reynolds numbers. Initially well-mixed suspensions become inhomogeneous and anisotropic due to this instability. READ MORE

  2. 22. A Study on the Thermal State of Steelmaking Ladles

    Author : Björn Glaser; Du Sichen; Petrus Christiaan Pistorius; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steelmaking ladle; refractory; thermal conductivity; transient hot wire method; slag; peheating;

    Abstract : In the present thesis a study on the thermal state of steelmaking ladles was undertaken. The transient hot wire method was verified for thermal conductivity measurements on metallurgical slags and applied to ladle slag measurements. Temperature measurements on ladles in an industrial environment were carried out. READ MORE

  3. 23. Studies of the flow pattern in short term hot water storages

    Author : Pascal Veber; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis relates to the study of thermally stratified hot water storages used in district heating systems and is an extension of the doctoral theses of Jan Dahl and Roger Hermansson. The thermal performance of a stratified water storage is reduced by different phenomena such as heat transfer to the surroundings and mixing between hot and cold water during the charging of the tank. 4. 24. Solar Assisted Pervaporation (SAP) : A process using membrane pouches and solar energy for the dehydration and preservation of fruit juices in rural and remote areas

    Author : Randi Phinney; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; membrane; pervaporation; fruit preservation; solar drying; heat and mass transfer; coupling effects;

    Abstract : Drying has been used for thousands of years to preserve foods. One of the first methods used was open air sun drying which exposes foods directly to solar radiation and ambient air. This method is still used today around the world but it remains underdeveloped on the small-scale for two main reasons. READ MORE
