    Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 2. 2. Optical projection tomography based 3D-spatial and quantitative assessments of the diabetic pancreas

    Author : Tomas Alanentalo; Ulf Ahlgren; Raphael Scharfmann; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal tract comprises a number of digestive organs including the stomach and pancreas. The stomach is involved in the digestion and short term storage of food while the pancreas is a mixed endocrine and exocrine gland which provides the body with hormones and enzymes essential for nutritional utilisation. Abstract : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. READ MORE

  4. 4. Diabetes pathogenesis : role of natural killer cells, T cells and a novel neuropeptide

    Author : Hanna Brauner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a major health problem affecting nearly 5% of the population world wide. It is a heterogeneous group of diseases with the autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the metabolic type 2 diabetes (T2D) being the major types. READ MORE

  5. 5. Diabetic glomerulopathy-natural history, intervention and prediction of complications

    Author : Nina Perrin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
